Is it not relevant to declare an interest when giving an opinion........people who work for BMW don't tend to push Mercedes.........if I hear somebody trashing Mercedes ,I might react differently if I know they sell BMW's......no conspiracy theory(another term you guys in the industry love) but a bias perhaps!
Personally I would like to see more people from within the industry giving their perspective on the forum but being honest about their interest.

You mention later that "people will come and go" and you are right .......and many that have gone, were within the industry, but had independent thought.........!

It is clear that any pushing for better service has to come from outside the corridors and most is coming from people who love the game!
I work for a pantyhose company what difference does it make?what I do know is common sense and that is if you keep on betting on the open bet none of us will enjoy racing in time as 99,9% of the expenses come from the operators who if you go into their prospectus contribute 700 bar towards expenses off 5 billion in turnover while the bookmakers contribute about 50 bar off a turnover of 7 billion

Blondie you say "99,9% of the expenses come from the operators "

Is the operator so generous that they pay for the expenses from their own pocket or does the expenses come out of the take out from punters ???

The operators are running a business with the aim of making a profit, so why should I help a company make a profit that has no regard for the customers.

Blondie is the operator a NPO or does the stake holders take home profits ???

Like any business they are there to make a profit, when you go to pick and pay do you get groceries for free or do they make a profit for their stake holders why is anybody in business ?if it's so bad stop punting this is a free democracy.before anybody asks me again no I don't work for the operators I just love the game and common sense must prevail that in if the open bet was squashed we would have bigger pools as well as bigger stakes for owners,in return why don't bookmakers just pay their share of the expenses as they are using all the operators platforms from the racecourse to the horses, jockeys and TellyTrack and everything else?

Over the years 10's of millions have been lost to the pick 6 pools just in carry overs alone, once there is a carry over every cent that is placed via the open bet goes into the bookmakers coffers never to be seen again, The argument that the open bet allows you to know your return before the jump certainly doesn't apply to the Pick 6 and Jackpots etc the only guarantee one gets is the same payout as the Tote unless the payout exceeds their limits so imo not only are those who take the open bet shooting the industry in the foot but they are doing themselves an injustice at the same time...
The solution is simple, if the bookmakers are so hell bent on laying the open bet then let them do away with the limits that the seem to revel in hiding behind and readdress their contribution towards the industry that is the very foundation of their business...time for the "Everything in our favor" attitude to desist.

I agree Tich also what they should do is not display the dividends of any bet let's see what happens to the open bet then.

Titch , i am curious ,was it world sports betting ?

They limited my account for the exact same reason you sited earlier on .

"Please understand that due to the fact that we offer the highest odds in all horse racing both nationally and internationally, we are compelled to manage each account independently and should we find that the client places bets on horses that shorten consistently after the bets have been placed, we are compelled to limit the account to an amount we are comfortable with. etc etc "

I have not used my Tote account for at least 8 years now, don't even remember the passwords.

I am 1 of those dormant accounts that has NEVER been contacted to try & get me to open the account again.

What if the tote operators offered........ open or reopen your account with us and we'll throw in 20 % bonus they need to think outside the box ......... give it a bash, time will tell if this works or not.

Having said that, I've had such shitty service from them in the past I won't be breaking down the door to get on ....... but it is a suggestion for NEW WOULD BE CLIENTS.

On second thoughts I would reopen that tote account.......... only if some incentive bonus was thrown in, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

My point Bob "the bookmakers keep their customers"through the operators platform but they don't want to pay,so I say let them declare their own dividends then let's see how long they last.
