Espumanti won easily from the boys (only 2 represented in the July at long odds) because she quicked better off a slow pace. People are saying Greyville doesn't suit COTT because of one run in the Woolaving coming off a touch Highveld season. I put that down to some hard races before that and not the course. She took a decent break after that start. She has been lightly raced this year and if not for the draw I would have made her a big runner. COTT beat Espumanti easily on Champions Day and is 1kg better off for that victory. The 1 draw as much as it looks great on paper can be a curse as you can easily get squeezed out by horses coming across you and find yourself close to the back of the field. Even though the two races on BW1900 day were run at two different paces Futura would have beaten Espumanti by 2.37 lengths and be 6,5kg's better off. We will have to wait and see but I believe COTT will finish ahead of Espumanti.

I remember RC before the Daily News, and I honestly did not expect that...but I would still like to see more of him...at this stage is only a maiden winner so he will still have to prove that his last run was no "flash in the pan"! He will still have to maintain that level of performance against multiple Grade 1 winners and older horses here. IMO. (

The Woolavington was run over 2 seconds slower than the DN and the KRA Fillies 1,8 seconds slower than the boys. I feel the 3 year old boys are in a different league to the girls this year, with 54kg's I think she has plenty of work to do.

Course winner (Gr1)
Close up to Beach Beauty in the Paddock stakes, beating espumanti.
Good draw
Worth a chance i believe, was really impressive last time out. I've always had a bet on the Woolavington winner in the July, except one year when ipe tombe won both:X. Not taking a chance this time.

I don't believe in taking times too seriously - firstly you have to trust the time-keeper and secondly over 1900 and 2000 pace plays a big part; well at least I hope I'm right as my biggest possible win will be with In the Fast Lane.
Where I do agree with you is that COTT will finish in front of Espumanti - but on last year's Woolavington run, Jet Belle will beat them both
As far as the 3 yr old colts go, at the weights there should not be too much between them, any of them (except Futura and to a lesser extent Rake's Chestnut) will be an OK result for me.
Cape Town Noir could be the dark horse - has run very close in last year's DN, so being a year older he could see out the 2200 - and the blinkers :S - not to be ignored totally imo
Can't wait (tu)

How much of a factor will the draw play this year with 4 less horses. When the field was 20 a draw of 11 to 13 was considered reasonable now you have less horses outside of you trying to get across?

I think it's fair to say it takes an exceptional 3 year old to win the J & B Met at that stage of their career or that time of the year, July time is roughly 11 months on in their development and they are deemed to have strengthened up quite a bit. I may be wrong, but this crop of 3 year olds isn't too shabby and the better older horses have left our shores. I think a 3 year old will win, which one is the question?

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Can't see it happening especially at Greyville over arguably Beach Beautys best distance and course ....

Difficult to see it happening, Beach Beauty is drawn 4 and Hammies Hooker 10. 1600m, Greyville, ..... nah.
