Craig, the posters handle should tell you a storey.
There are some posts you just have to ignore.
A lot of others appreciate you, your views and your input on this forum
For those that want to,there is a lot to learn, the rest can just post their views, stupid or not

Zietsyou are correct but I'm sure Craig had nothing to do with the purchase or breeding of those that are with him. I'm sure Craig will correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that those that he does have are just sent to him. Maybe Craig can tell us how many he has and how he acquires them.

In this game it's about opinions, and last time I looked everyone is entitled to voice his/hers - IMO there IS a difference between trainers (as with jockeys, horses, batsmen, bowlers, strikers, defenders, flyhalves, etc), some are more gifted than others. But at the same time some of the more gifted ones also get the better breaks (and it's not only the quality of the horses, it's also the number - the more you have, the higher your chances are getting a star) - that's just life. :

I am not saying every trainer is exactly the same but to say Igugu would have been a merit rated 94 with James is ludicrous. I dont have a hassle with saying Mike is good. He has a great team behind him from Jehanne who looks at the sales for him to John Mcveigh/Johnny Cave who fixes them to Dean the farrier and then the guys like Nathan, John and Tammy down here who do 95% of the work. With his travels Mike is hardly here except in the mornings during the Season. He is lucky enough to be able to do it. Frodo you are right as well about numbers. The more you have the more likely you are to get a good one. Mrs O and her Stud manager decide who should go to whom and they do not buy very much.We do not have anything to do with the breeding side. It is just an honour to be chosen to train for her.

Las Ramblas was bought for about R20k. Top all round training feat to get what he has out of it.
How many trainers have trained the Grade 1 Premier's Champion Stakes winner two years in succession as James did in '98 and '99 with Gold Tax and Highborn?.
Furthermore James has done a lot for racing. He was the first on-course presenter back in the 1990’s after suggesting the idea to Tellytrack and he founded Randjesfontein training centre in the late 1970’s

My first winner was a 30k Counter Action gelding which Duncan Howells trained & Dalpech rode, following this i had a string of no hopers & real soup meat, I was all but finished with owning until my wife insisted i buy a horse for myself, i.e. no partners, no argueing no BS. Take into account that Duncan & i have not always seen eye to eye but i believe if some form of loyalty.
I phoned Dincan in May 2005 and asked if he had bought anything at the Nationals on spec that was still available for purchase. He invited us to the yard and showed us Zeeno, a name that meant quite alot to us & a story for another time. My wife wrote him a cheque for the horse & six months training before i was finished looking at the colt.
One year later Zeeno won the Gold Medallion at Scottsville, my first grade 1 & more importantly Duncan's first grade 1, the pilot was Alec Forbes. None of us superstars, we were not expected to win.........
I may not rate some trainers or jockeys but the lesson i learn't was that any team can do it & that it is a lot more fun when you are the underdog. There are some trainers that i have sent horses to & will continue to & others that i wouldn't. The interesting thing about most trainers is that they do not wake-up in the morning & go out there to see how they can't win races........

Craig Eudey
Is 1000000% correct about him and james. Its unprovable.
BUT
If we had the same claiming system in SA like the states many trainer/owners in sa would be shown up.
Now I personally belive in "horse for trainer" some horses need something else they need a bit of tlc.
So I totally get it that goodman did well with las ramblas BUT I also belive that igugu in his hands has a different career path (rock opera example)
You see craig if you had igugu you would be so jaags you would make decisions based on your situation and therefore her path would have to be different. Your methods are different to mikes as are james so she could have been a 94 or a 134 but never the same.
And I would bet she would be rated lower just my opinion

Tigershark if you don't mind me asking what happened to Zeeno. Remember him well only ran 4 times as a 2 year old, thought he would go on well.

When reading some of the comments you wonder if these folks have ever worked with a horse let alone ridden one to understand that a animal is an individual and responds accordingly .
