Mr eudey
To say that the diffs between mike and james is " the bloodstock" is an insult to one of them.
Ask yourself WHY goodman owns a share in everyhorse in his yard
Also to assume that "big" owners are blind and choose mike insread of you or james is another insult.
Maybe less golf and forums brings great horses.

Jame's 1st goodie was the 1st horse I ever backed.....named Profumo and was his first graded race winner.....he also had a fair filly(name escapes me ) that was owned and bred by the late Alan Parkins a guy my family introduced to racing....

the head of the columbian drug catel is NO fool, he is of course dealing in drugs and in an illegal business but he is no fool.
I mention this because when you at the top of the tree (any tree) there must be something MORE than the basics, more than luck and to STAY at the top of the tree takes and even GREATER effort.
So i find it rather dismissive to say "James and 95% of trainers a good horse and they will win races with it"
another example is the following:
My mate Gary was the underbidder on a horse called Rock Opera, he then told me one day he was the underbidder on a 9 time in a row winner. I said BOLLOCKS....
Had Gary bought the horse he would have sent it to Woodruff so NO WAY would Geoff had run it as many times as Corne.
This shows you that it is NOT ONLY about the horse, there is a skill in planning a career of said horse, managing injuries, choosing races
Another example
Joey Soma had a horse that at Best was a Group 2 animal BUT by carefully planning his career and which battles he fought he ended up wining a HUGE war one day and became a "champion" NO WAY was SPECIAL PREVIEW a Group 1 Horse but the record books show different......
Another example
Mike Riley (for me the best ever) was so fixated on being ahead of the handicapper and backing one from 20/1 to evens that he missed his true calling of training winners left right and centre.
Another Example
Louis Goosen has a horse, could have won 5 races as a juvenile BUT its long term goal was the 2 bar race. So he takes his time he even runs NEGEV on sand to get another prep into it BUT remains focussed and true to the plan. Another trainer might have burnt it out by the time the race came along.
So i think it is ALL about the man at the head of the stable and less about the horse.

Easy I can see you are not here in SA. There a a number of reasons that Mike is where he is but am not going into it with someone who obviously biased and will not listen and therefore I will not tell you. Just your 1 statement to start is wrong. I am at stables 6/7 days a week and that is am and pm. I do not play golf. James is at stables far more often than Mike and plays less golf than him. When you actually know what you talking about put some decent input into a thread. As my farther used to say" Rather keep quiet and look stupid than open your mouth and prove it" Maybe that is something that you should learn.

Craig
with all due respect what you are saying is that even with 6/7 days a week no golf and a limited social life as well as total comitement to your stable and cheaper rates than mike
he still thumps you on the stats????
and the whole SA racing fraternity chooses mike and not you because they doff??
come on pal, surely you must give some respect to the man as a trainer and admit he has even 1% better skill level than you?

Luca Cumani not only trains he's horses very well,he also mentored some up and coming trainers in their
early years.Marco Botti,James Toller and David Simcock all worked at Bedford House.
Jockeys Dettori,Fortune and Nicky Mackay all started out with him..
The daughters not bad either

Craig in all due respect James has trained some good horses but the problem an owner is faced with racing in the Goodman yard is that he has shares in all the horses he trains and if the horse is Shit you as the owner only finds out after spending a lot of money. Is that fair on the owner or trainer and all the horses he trained in the past ,where are the owners gone, they have left him and gone to an honest trainer ,as an owner I want to know early the horse is bad not two years on,you can tell a mini from a BMW 95% of the time. Also James has been breeding rubbish for so long none of us are prepared to take risks loke that.Fact I know where you come from Craig you need to be given a chance but James has had in the past many good owners ask yourself can they all be wrong??????

Easy nothing will ever be proved until all trainers get the same buying power and able to spend the same amount on Vets additives etc. No one has said Mike is not good but let him and James swop places for 3 months and see how James does. James is no idiot and knows what he is doing. Give him the horse and he will give you the winners. Look at some of the trainers who have won the July etc and you will find guys that went out due to not having the buying power and the stock but when they had the horse they won the top races. Without the horse the trainer is nothing. If you believe anything different there is no question you are wrong.

Go Easy mate........this is no Mike / Craig thing but about cracking a star.Just one star in a stable can raise your profile to the limits and you also need to be given the opportunity and the cherry on the top is something called "LUCK" which you need in any sphere........................
