It still amazes me that some people still seem to completely judge a trainer on his present results. No one, not even Mike de K will win with a bad horse. I and all the trainers at Summerveld have seen horses of his work that will never win a race. Give James and 95% of trainers a good horse and they will win races with it. Mike might win an extra race with it and he might not.

Trainers are mostly optomists( some owners as well, especially if they have bred them). Some show more at home than on the track (call them morning glories) some never race and go straight to stud. Some show nothing at home and then run well on the course( FFC last week) If a horse will never run a place or win we do take them out of training.

I agree with you 100% Craig. It's a good horse that really makes a trainer to stand out. Unfortunately, those with the buying power and deep pockets tend to look at top stables for their horses. The smaller trainers are expected to do maricles with medocire horses and are judged by this. I do know of trainers that give their blood sweat and tears just to be competitive. I think the guys should cut some slak on trainers.

one of the best trainers in germany, peter schiergen, wanted to sell "danedream", winner of the biggest race in the world, when it was two years old. he thought, it would not win races
