I did Pat Cosgraves rides when he was here. He went to Joburg for a 800m dash on a horse that ran unplaced for Jan Breedt. That happened to open up the door with St Gray for whom Pat had his most success here. So good point Easy. As Chris said, he fits that mould and that's obviously key to how he has found such form in PE.

Gareth, Pat had 4 or 5 winners in his 2 month stint in SA and I remember him having 1 for St John..MDK and Tarry supported him initially and if Im not mistaken he rode a winner for James Goodman at a huge price, but it was hardly a hugely successful visit??

I agree 100 % with Easy.
In 1988, we hit the Trainers with business cards, we used the slogan "Riding to win" and evolved it to "seeking perfection in raceriding", we ran it as a business which included the plan to send birthday cards, Christmas cards and THANK YOU cards. I did spend 1 hour on the phone to a Trainer for 1 ride. That 1 ride was made to work for us, as it created many more. No, I did not spend 1 hour per ride. That's obvious, even for dummies.
We worked the racing press, we put our heads down, planned every day in terms of workriding. A few months later, we even arranged BMW 5 series demo vehicles, for the press to use down to Durbs for the Jockeys challenge.
The first ride up here, was on a horse called, Whitewash Willy, for the late Des Renou. It had run 5 consecutive lasts/second lasts, in its last 5 runs...... It wasnt 40 to 1, it was 100 to 1. The year was 1988. The month September and the unknown PE jock was Piere Strydom.
And the rest is history, which Easy knows and remembers very well.

Chippy you are a rare breed of Jockey in these times and you have just done Comrades and donated to HCU.
You offer a jockey's perspective on this forum which no other S.A. jockey does.We know there are a good few owners on this forum and it would be good to see a few pass rides your way, agent or not.
Just my 2 cents worth.
P.S. How about 2cents [D.M]?
