Agent Required

My point is a jockey earning R50k a month will be able to get more rides if he pays someone R15k a month.The jockeys earnings will go from R50k to R80k, so he is financially better off and he is getting 100% support from an agent.

i do agree with that statement though..if u have a good agent you he can pay for himself in a way...

Just looking at the stats for last season

Picked a jocey that i think rode all year but i stand corrected

Alec Forbes total stakes 5 048 402.00
Rides 687

So his earnings are circa R1.1 (estimate)
An agent working for him would have earned R110k
about R9k a month

Louis Nhlapo total stakes R1.3m
rides 619
so his earnings about R700k
his agent R70k
about R6k a month

That is a huge difference, imvho Louis is better off paying a oke R15k a month and riding 1200 horses a year that way his earnings go to R1.2 and he pays out R180k

yes in theory that is true but there is no agent that can get nhlapo 1200 rides..if a trainer would rather use someone else u can beg and phone as much as u want he will use someone else

I disagree, you named him so i will go with him...If myself or any of the guys above were andre hoffmans agent he would get triple the rides he has. dont underestimate the relationship agents have with the "smaller "trainer.

BUT no one will take the job on a 10% comm basis only because it will be suicide......BUT pay me R15 a month and ill guarentee you (if he plays the game) that hoffman will ride 3 x what he rode last year

but its not a theory, its a fact. trainers need to "chat " a bit.....any person can ring up marcus and put him on. and marcus can ring up anybody and get a ride BUT only an agent can speak to a trainer about millies and maize for 1 hour to secure 5 rides in kimberley. Or to a trainer about flyfishing.....its an art, its hard work BUT it can be done

this is not correct..if his stakes earning were 5 million..he would only get 9 % of wins and 6 % places..so lets say average 8% coz most stake is from wins..5 million x 8 % is 400k....687 x riding fee of R580 is R398k..total of R 798 000...which is R 66 500 per month..R 6 650 for an agent

i agree with what u saying with the chattin about mielies etc yes..it is possible to do that for a jock 100%..but not to the extent that u are saying..

as i said i am not on par with the current riding fees etc but that just adds to my point. a "struggling" jockey is better off paying a set ammount and getting a 100% service

I would like to see my boss give a ride to a jock that he doesn't want to use because the agent has wasted an hour of his time speaking nonsense to him. Not happening.
