Anyways my question is as follows, as per your requirements above 600 rides etc what does that equate to for an agent. I reckon a jockey aiming for such a low % of winners NEEDS to ride nearly 1000 rides a year just for it to be worth it and to cover basic costs.
Ill be surprised if anyone can "make it pay" based on your "goal" life is just tooooo expensive or you going to get someone doing it part time and that is no good.

Typical jocks want the tom for themselves but want a great job done - most have no idea of the work involved - unless you are anton and your phone rings for you I would guess the phone bill to be at least 1200 per month - no pe is the agents only opportunity to make it pay and its excluding that - chippy I think u need to employ. Marsh shirtliff or ettien braun they can do it for fun

As a matter of interest I've always wondered why agents only get 10 percent of presents shouldn't it be 50 50 cause without that effort no present ? Plus the chop of grade 1 winners how many grade 1s have you ridden in since you became a jock in sa ? That will give an idea of the potential earning capabilities. Oh and should the agent acquire a sponsor say 5000 a month would he only get 500 a month ? Seems hardly worth the effort to me

blueyonder being an agent for a good earning jockey can pay well considering the time you put in...u not going to feed a family on it but its a good part time job considering u only work for like 2/3 hours a day..but obviously u need to watch racing everyday etc which is more time..sponsorships and presents aside..you can easily add 10k to ur income(top 20 jockey tho atleast)..when i was a lightie at 19 i was doing rides for delpech and felix and was making 20k a month easy..its hard to imagine an agent making more then that unless he has 2 or even 3 top guys which is hard to do coz of conflict of interest etc..id say an agent for a top jock makes 10k plus..and then a decent jock that travels prob 8-10k and then ur average local guy who rides 3 or 4 winners a month prob about 5k..as i said, not bad if you have a job and can add that as extra for a little time..but doing it full time is not probable as its unreliable..there is no loyalty in this game..an agent is the only job i know where you can be fired today and have to stop work..no notice no severance pay nothing..and with little or no explanation! so its a nice part time option

I guess it depends on the jock, Muzi was by far the best in the paying department that I have worked with..I got 1K a month for my phone, 15% across the board and a 2K bonus when we had 10 or more winners in a month and an additional bonus when we won a graded or listed race, (this included Durban where I was not even doing his rides) I also got 5K last season for finishing in the top 3, but that was from my very accommodating bookie

Give everything but up!

Chippy has had someone doing his PE rides for some time now and it would be unfair to boot the guy who btw has been doing a good job

you cant be an agent "part time" unless your jockey is also "part time" it is a full time job and therefore should be rewarded accordingly.
Maybe Chippy needs to think out of the box.
Offer someone R15k a month (decent wage in sa i am told) and then work your ass off to earn R1m
The R180k will be deductable and you might find yourself the right person.
I would do it for £1200 a month, irrespective of rides (barring injury/suspension) and then its worth it, as it puts the onus on the jockey to ride plenty

yes actually i have done it before
what you mention above is only part of the job.
working for a jockey lower down the table requires plenty work behind the scenes.
so for example phoning philip smith could only be done after 4 pm
another kimberley trainer pienaar was best to speek to him before 8am
alec laird like to be called only after 5 pm on the days of the noms
mike riley like me to visit the stables with the noms
pat riley liked it when we both drove down to pmb
i could go on and on and on........
