I have never doubted your passion for the game for one minute but you have to know what people think of this game if illegal and banned substances are used and most accept it.
They obviously banned for a reason, why can't they just use drugs that are legal and don't harm the animal that makes a living for you and every other person in horse racing.
The vets, the trainers and owners know it's banned so why even try use them.

Durbs it not that it is illegal substances ..Each substance has a different withdrawal timing .So you have to be very careful with your timing so the substance is not in the horses sample on a race day ..There are totally banned substances like Steriods and Bute that you can’t use at all .It is illegal . Hope this clears it up a bit for you ..

Durbs, good on you
Don’t allow them to capture you with their bamboozle
You can call a fork a spoon all day long, but the soup will still run through it like the fork it is
[But geez, mate, some of your conspiracy theories are right up there with Roswell]
What I don’t understand with this “treatment” with banned or illegal substances is why the vets get off scot-free after an admission of guilt is signed – surely they know everything about what drugs to use or not use for certain maladies in horses; on the other hand I think they still use antibiotics for viral infections.

This is surely the end of the road for punters. We got taken for a ride with banking Peters horse in race 3 only to be scratched and the favourite runs a sloppy 4th and watch the race Richard didn't pursue with his mount in later stages.
Does the NHRA and the stipes think that money is falling from the sky. To you NHRA, Stipes and 4Q racing hiding under the umbrella of Phumelela I dedicate the poem city Johannesburg to you and may you all become unemployed very soon .I have been playing horses for 46 years now but this is an absolute disgrace of a show you put. With the stunt that you pulled on the punters ,if you were transparent enough then this summer cup should have been postponed. Well done now that bookies sponsor the big races we should know what to expect. This industry is rotten to the core and you guys up there I am speaking from my pocket !
This is me signing out of SA Racing ,think spend more time fishing than supporting an unethical industry.

I have nothing personal against the Peter family. They seem like decent God fearing, family oriented people. As a punter I have made a lot of money backing the stable horses especially when the late money comes bucketing down. I have also been racing for well over 50 years. I can safely say that in all of my time I have NEVER seen such radical improvement in horses' performance shortly after coming into the Peter yard. Moderate animals suddenly run as if they've been dropped into the race at the 400m mark. Unlike other horses they don't get tired. So one has to ask the obvious questions...is Tony such a better trainer than those with 20 or 30 years experience ? Does he have superior training techniques, facilities and work riders ? Does he feed his horses better food ? In that regard I'd love to hear MDK''s opinion. I'm sure that every single racegoer who isn't somehow connected to the stable knows the answer. So obviously Peter will hire a smart lawyer that will outwit our incompetent NHA and it'll be 'business' as usual....

Yip we seem to have different views worh that ride by Fourie in the 3rd race on this forum.
I personally think he could have done better.
But that ride on the 1-5 tote favorite by Lerena was worse.Never gave the horse a chance to win.
But I mustn't complain about it cause it's only money, the bigger picture is that people make a living out of horse racing and that is much more important than punters getting screwed by human error.
After the Summer Cup it looks like even more people giving SA racing a miss.
People talking from their pockets and that is what makes racing survive or not.
Hopefully the Cape guys can give punters a reason to stay or come back but as it is now in Gauteng it's a total shit show and in my opinion not worth spending my money on.

@Mark Sham...forgive my ignorance...if a substance can result in a fine / ban (for repeated instances?) for being present in a horse's sample on race day, because the timing of the administration of the substance was wrong, is the substance still not the problem? And yet it seems okay practice in the industry to administer to animals and you are okay with that?
My little interest is fast dropping to zero interest...much like my interest in the Proteas...sad...

I would guess that some 'medicine' is administered to treat whatever symptom - not necessarily 'bad' for a horse - but it could be seen as a performance 'enhancer' when racing with that 'medicine' - therefor the timing issue

You must think of racehorses as an athlete…
If you imagine the Boks travelling team, there is a Dr, physio, biokineticist, dietician etc.
Same with a racehorse athlete …there are times where he may be feeling a muscle strain from an innocent thing like rolling in his box, or tweak a joint by freshing after work (like you twist your ankle) it’s very minor and probably doesn’t even show as a lameness. It’s this type of circumstance that would prompt a trainer to use one the substances to make him feel ok. All of these treatments are done and recorded by a vet within the recommended withdrawal times. Where most of the positive findings come in is that ,like people, horses can have different metabolising times and although it was given within the recommended time for this particular horse a small portion remained.
And yes……the Proteas are not my favourite team either
