This is the build up to the Vodacom July....it was 2 choices.....run him in CPT and come to KZN with a big merit rating....and be under sufference of maximum weight on a 3 year old colt based on merit rating, or......rest him for the CPT Summer season, and come to kzn and build up merit rating, versed on how classy his wins are and how many lenghts he wins by.....as mentioned earlier on this thread by someone, he wins tomorrow, merit rating goes up to 106, runs a cool second for the betting world 1900, carry 53KG for the july, and hope for a good draw...... i think this is the plan....i have seen this horse, and he is superb

Pirates is 100% correct.Whilst this horse clearly has potential upside,20-1 for the July is an extremely skinny price.He has to win tonight and run very well in the Grey 1900 just to get in.It is common knowlegde that he is highly rated,but as we have seen in the last few months(with numerous 'bomb' flops) it is not how they are rated but how they perform on the track that counts.

To be honest I can't really find any value in the July betting at this stage.

I'm not saying that Taipan will definitely win tonight but seriously English Gardens recent form is nothing to write home about. The only thing EG has in his favour is that he seems to do ok at Greyville.

Furthermore Rio Carnival & Whiteline Fever appear to do better over 1400m so Taipan does look the best in the field over the distance of 1800m

Over a true 1800m I would have to agree................just battling to see any pace in the race ,unless Taipan sets it!

I sort of agree as well but EG last run looked like there was signs of a return to form...
