Cheltenham 2022 new thread.

The big day is here and it will be difficult to keep the Irish at bay this week.

Have a good feeling that the punters can hit the front over the bookies today.

Day one

CONSTITUTION HILL has been given slight preference over Dysart Dynamo and Jonbon.

EDWARDSTONE has been one of my early festival fancies and only negative is that the race is traditionally not favourable for 8 yr Olds.

DEATH DUTY in a very open race where a big priced winner could be on the cards.

HONEYSUCKLE cant really say much more but one of the punters best bets this week and Rachael to get a massive cheer from the crowd.

TELMESOMETHINGGIRL to give Rachael another winner in a very competitive race.

GAELIC WARRIOR can give Paul Townend a winning ride

RUN WILD FRED to hopefully keep the punters in front on day one

Good Punting and look forward to the big ROAR as the starter calls "THEY ARE OFF".

65000 racegoers on the course is going to be great to see , at one stage during Covid i thought we would never see this again. Wonder if you can get a bet on how much Guinness will be consumed over the four days :woohoo:

been listening to the build up and a lot are trying to take on Honeysuckle today , gonna be a fascinating race

Yes Craig as Appreciate It is also a cracker but I fancy HONEY to make it 15 from 15 🤞

Per day so I wonder how many are going to end in hospital or worse as Covid is still pretty much on the up in Britain

1.30 SUPREME NOVICES HURDLE
WINNER : DYSART DYNAMO 9/4
2ND BEST : CONSTITUTION HILL 5/2

The opening event at the Festival promises to be quite a race, between the 2 selections, with also Jonbon in the mix, however DYSART DYNAMO is the selection to WIN and get Willie Mullins and Paul Townend off the mark for the week ahead.

Unbeaten in 4 races so far the 6 year old gelding is the apple of the eye for the irish Yard and is the clear pick of their 3 runners in this race, Mullins as a master trainer and has chosen this race for the DYNAMO more than the Ballymore, the way he tanks along will bring him to the fore at the festival and he is expected to take some catching running at the head of affairs, the ground is perfect and will take a deal of beating, on the form he showed when winning a Grade 2 event last time out back in January by 19 lengths he is a worthy favourite and Mullins has brought him along quietly and carefully with only 4 runs in the past 12 months...Fresh and ready to win.....

the main danger will surely come from CONSTITUTION HILL who is also unbeaten in his 2 outings to date, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Nico de Boinville, the 5 year old hacked up last time out in a grade 1 race at Sandown, but we just favour the older DYSART DYNAMO as a consensus of opinion at Carl's Bets to win the first!

RACE 2
2-10 Tuesday- THE ARKLE CHALLENGE TROPHY

WINNER: EDWARDSTONE 11/4
2ND BEST:RIVIERE D'ETEL 4/1

EDWARDSTONE, has done nothing but improve all season, winning his past 4 races, Alan King trains the 8 year old gelding, who jumps really well, and that is the key to him being the selection...EDWARDSTONE is very assured and accomplished at his fences, and is primed to give his handler, along with Jockey Tom Cannon a festival winner, Cannon has been on board for all victories, he is the rightful favourite for this big race and we expect him to take a deal of beating.

The danger however in our opinion without doubt is the Gordon Elliott younger horse RIVIERE D'ETEL a top class grey 5 year old Mare who gets a very healthy 7lb weight allowance from Edwardstone that will make it a very close contest and she wont go down without a major fight...

Regular pilot Jack Kennedy rides her and RIVIERE is very highly regarded by the yard, carrying a lovely physique, with 3 wins and 2 seconds in her 5 runs this season, all in top company, the Irish money will be on the younger mare to oblige and she may well do just that, and its very close between them, but we just favour the "King Horse" and his better jumping technique to help him come out on top!

RACE 3
ULTIMA HANDICAP CHASE 2.50PM

WINNER: FANTASTIKAS 14/1
2ND BEST: TEA CLIPPER 16/1
3RD BEST FLOUEUR 9/1

Very tricky tight handicap chase and we have selected 3 horses that we are sure will run fine races and we expect to nominate the winner from the trio, who are all decent odds, it came down to the style of this race suiting FANTASTIKAS the best, he was entered in the National Hunt chase also, but this very strongly run event will be right up the 7 year old geldings street, Trained by Nigel Twiston Davies and ridden by Sam who has been on board for 10 of his 12 races to date so knows him exceptionally well,

so far FANTASTIKAS has been kept to smaller fields with 6-8-3-9-8 runners contesting the races, he has won 2 of those events and was 2nd and 3rd in the others, however Tuesday ULTIMA CHASE will put FANTASTIKAS in a 25 runner field! and that is what we believe will propel the gelding to show his best form ever and win this event, his trainer is well adapt at landing big races at the festival

Dangers are abound, but we like the look of TEA CLIPPER trained by bang in form Tom Lacey who has 4 winners from past 8 runners, Clipper wears cheekpieces for the first time in this is handicap debut, so its highly possible massive improvement will come, just as it will in the selection as stated, and with that in mind TEA CLIPPER who has not ran since boxing day (Fresh horse) is worthy of a bet to give jockey Sam Sheppard a big race winner.

Finally a word for The Gordon Elliott trained FLOUEUR who also has a decent case, but we feel his jumping is not as strong as it could be and may well find him out in the latter stages of a helter skelter pace..so we are siding with FANTASTIKAS to love the big field and win and TEA CLIPPER to wake up with blinds on and in a handicap for the first time and run a massive race
