Very good run by Treasure Hunt- unlucky loser as the saddle slipped and couldn’t be ridden out. The rest of ours disappointing this week.
One runner the weekend- Drama Queen in the 7th at Scottsville on Sunday. Open handicap- 1kg under sufferance and a wide draw but can be in the money with a low weight.

Hope to see Elusive Fort get a double tomorrow with Pretty in Pearls and Big Burn.

Elusive Fort did get a double, but with Naval Guard- Pretty in Pearls second.
Big Burn very impressive under a big weight. She shows great speed, but I still think that she can get a mile in top company.

In addition to Drama Queen at Scottsville today, I am co-breeder of Princess Anastasia, which we sold recently, and she has her first run for the new connections in race 5. An open handicap, and a wide draw, but she must have an ew shout, as she is better than her current rating.

Fair run by Drama Queen in 4th- should pick up another race soon.
Princess Anastasia was hopelessly out of her ground from the draw, and finished very strongly in 3rd- be with this one next time.

Saturday *Pretty Betty runs in the 8th at Turffontein. A strong Pinnacle, the trip a bit on the short side for her but this is her final prep for the mile in 3 weeks time. Want to see her running on.
Zarina is the class filly here, but not sure how long she has been in Jhb, and this is presumably also a prep for the Gr1 mile.

Pretty Betty outpaced this trip but has taken the race well.

At Kenilworth on Tuesday, Secretary of State and * I’m in Charge( reserve runner)in the 6th. A moderate maiden handicap so anything can happen.

On Friday two runners at Fairview.
*Cape Point in race 4. Field has scratched up to just 5 runners, and not a lot between the top 3. Our boy is doing well and I’m hoping that he can find the winners box.
*Jean Paul runs in race 8. Won a maiden handicap at long odds carrying bottom weight and has been put up 10 points for that effort. Obviously this is much stronger but hopefully he can build on that run. We have kept young Ramzan on him so again gets the claim and has a handy galloping weight. Big field and an open race and I give him an ew chance. Emperors Decree and Ideal View are consistent and the ones to beat.

A very welcome win by Cape Point under a very smart ride by Luyolo. The two favourites were so busy watching each other that they let him pinch a nice lead. He stays all day, although a bit one paced.
Jean Paul very unlucky- took a bump shortly after the start and then was baulked 300m out, had to switch and then flew. Was only beaten 3 L and with a clear run would have gone very close.
Sound of Warning ( bred in partnership) a good third place in a strong field. Ironically on the same race day that her dam just failed to clinch the Triple Tiara by a short head 7 years ago.

Indigo Fields runs in the 8th race at Scottsville on Sunday. Up in class in a tough field where she is a few kg out at the weights, and both her wins have been on the poly, so although she has scope for improvement would be an upset if she were to feature.

“Peter de Beyer's Black Swan Stud will be offering seven lots at the upcoming National Yearling Sale.
Described as a boutique stud, the Robertson based Black Swan Stud is situated on a magnificent land that produces superior bone strength in its thoroughbreds, and astute matings over the years have combined to make it a successful quarter century for the man who started with a solitary mare in 1998.

Black Swan's Peter de Beyer has already enjoyed plenty of success as a breeder, with his notable success stories including G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic heroine Siren's Call (herself dam of current smart filly Sound Of Warning) and Met runner up, and sire, Last Winter. Siren's Call herself is represented at this year's National Yearling Sale, with that Elusive Fort mare dam of a Vercingetorix colt.

Peter was also instrumental in bringing Elusive Fort back to stand at stud in South Africa following his North American campaign, and that champion son of Fort Wood has gone on to enjoy plenty of success at stud, notably through the deeds of the above mentioned Siren's Call and recent G1 WSB Cape Town Met winner Kommetdieding.

Elusive Fort, Black Swan's resident sire, has three lots in this draft, including a filly (Lot 81) out of a stakes winning daughter of Silvano, and a filly (Lot 400) out of a stakes winning half-sister to G1 Golden Slipper winner Chestnuts N Pearls.

Black Swan Stud's National Sale draft also includes yearlings by Captain Of All, Master Of My Fate, Twice Over and Rafeef, with the latter responsible for a half-sister to G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes winner Temple Grafin.

This draft can be found in Block E at the TBA Complex.“

Spent today on the farm- the yearlings all looking very good, and we have a lovely crop of babies which are being weaned this month. Elusive Fort in great shape for the upcoming season and hopefully still has a few more years. He bounced back with a decent book of 65 mares last season after a very quiet 2020.
There are only 5 of his yearlings on the NYS including our three.
He is 7th on the sires log by stakes for the current season, but with far fewer runners than all those above him on the log. For the top 20 sires on stakes, on AEPR ( average earnings per runner) he sits second to Vercingetorix.
The best value for money sire in the country.

We have one runner on Wednesday at Kenilworth, * Treasure Hunt in the 5th race. Has been knocking on the door recent runs and very unlucky loser last time. Unfortunately has pulled a horrible draw. If she had drawn well I would be very bullish on her chances as she is working well, but will need luck from that draw.

Very few front runners stayed on at Kenilworth, and the going was clearly much stickier than the official course report. Treasure Hunt caught wide and had to work hard to get to a decent position- tired the last 200m.

Two runners at the Vaal Thursday. Race 1 I Am Who I Am debut in a strong juvenile contest, where Maharanee and Twin Strike look to fight it out unless a very good first timer. The dam was quick and has had 5 winners by a variety of stallions. Gold Standard still awaiting his first winner.
JP Twothousand in the 9th. Won convincingly last time and I think that the 1400m straight should suit him as he has been running on strongly over the 1200m, and his siblings have won up to 1600m. Gets a 4kg claim and should be competitive, but a very inexperienced apprentice up.

On Friday one runner at Fairview, Mhlabeni in the 7th. He showed a return to form last time but is quite inconsistent. Gets a top jockey and a fair draw so must be in with an ew shout.
