Craig Zackey busting it up in the club

Champion jockey Craig Zackey won the 13th race at the Met on Saturday, but his celebration was short-lived when he had to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly assaulting a man at a club.
Stephan Botes, 60, alleged Zackey attacked him on Saturday, on the dance floor of Club 31, after an altercation.

Zackey, 24, from Boksburg appeared in court after Botes made a case against him for beating him with an unknown object.

Botes, who is retired, was left with cuts on his face and required micro surgery, which he received over the weekend.

According to Botes, he had been drinking at the bar when Zackey arrived and slapped his drink from his hand.

He claims to have done nothing to provoke Zackey, who later allegedly pushed on the dance floor before attacking him.

“I didn’t do a damn thing. I don’t know him from a bar of soap, he deliberately slapped the drink in my hand and he viciously assaulted me. People at the club were mortified,” Botes said.

“He slapped me hard several times with a solid object and I had an open cut on my forehead and from my lower jaw across my jaw line. According to the club manager, they’ve done it before.”

Club 31 management revealed nothing about the incident but said that attacks like the assault by Zackey were often experienced at the club and management were prepared to deal with it.

The Cape Argus contacted Zackey on Facebook to find out his accounts of the allegd attack, but he initially maintained that we had the wrong person, before revealing that he was the accused by asking for video footage the Cape Argus obtained.

A clerk at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court confirmed that Zackey appeared in court on Monday, and said the case was postponed to March 16. Cape Town police spokesperson Captain Ezra October confirmed that the case was opened.

.....who....the 60 yr old....I'm close to 60....and have the brains not to go out clubbing....it looks far too pervie for old okes to go go to these places....I jolled to clubs and raves well into my 40's but looked 30 and had a wife in her 20's.....but 60 is 60 even if you look 40 going to a club....is only going to get you clubbed.... :oops:

Doesn't matter how old he is etc...shouldn't get a beating from a youngster anywhere!

.....lighties of today are not like yester year....generally speaking they have little or no respect for their elders only because they are brought up that way.....parents want to be buddies with their kids and land up disappointing them anyway and lose their respect....they then view all older people as disappointments too....kids then want their space....the last thing they want is some old arse ogling them....this story has 2 sides....slapping is done with an open hand.....there is no way you can slap some one with an object in your hand....that is GBH....grievous bodily harm....either you got slapped ....or hit with an object.....clubbed.... :blink:

But as with all cases in our slow and convoluted justice system...it is alleged

I am a firm believer that there is always 3 sides to a story, Mr Botes, Mr Zackey and the truth. Let us not condemn a youngster after hearing one side only. Irrespective of why a 60 year old would be on a dance floor I would have to believe that something else is conveniently not being told.

Stop having a go at 60yr olds i am way over that age and my son is frightened to have a night out with me .

So another case of bringing racing into disrepute that the NHA have to deal with.

I've got a feeling this one will result in some sort of punishment / slap on the wrist. But what about the precedent they have set in the whole Jooste thing? May as well just scribble that rule out of their books now.
