Rob for me it was easier in the normal speed finish. I saw the bloody 9's nose come up as 1's went down and I said to my chick "arghhhh, mugged on the line"...BUT..the slow mo's for me was indecisive :( ... but I only an old fart with no eyesight....

I watched it in real time and straight away said to Paul Gadsby, Michael Roberts and then Dennis Drier that his horse just got it. I was hoping I was wrong though. Head went down on the line. Beaten 10mms. :(

BATTLE ROYALE - click to watch the race video replay

08th May post-race report : No words!.. only the race video replay can adequately express the nail-biting, heart-racing intensity of a battle that sums up the allure of this game – HEART! Destined for Dawn has made us immensely proud with his ‘never quit’ approach to every challenge and although he was the loser on Friday night, it was only on the line that luck snatched what would’ve been a well deserved victory. To punters.. yes he has an intimate relationship with the hole in your wallets dating back years now.. but even as a loser surely he can’t be hated for Friday night’s gig. And what would a post-race report be without a mention of young apprentice Dennis Schwarz who rides the work on all our (Sport of Kings Syndicate) horses with good reason. His natural talent has not gone unnoticed and another proud moment watching him deliver to instruction with razor precision in the race as he does on the training tracks. He will continue to blossom with experience. Destined for Dawn pulled up brilliantly after the race, couldn’t be happier and he now sits at 8x runs for 8x stakes cheques in 3½ months netting R48k after trainer/jockey/groom deductions with the R40k maiden win still to come. Destined for Dawn; they reminded us in no uncertain terms that you were the underdog on Friday night – but you made them sweat for it we salute you!

On the evidence of that (admittedly average) photo, the very worst that could have been declared is a dead heat.

Remember, stipes are human and they can and do make mistakes, the only difference is, punters don't get made whole for the stipes' mistakes.

Awful call, just awful.

Chris, the stipes do not have anything to do with the result. They are 3 stories and 100m away. The judges decide and have a high resolution camera and big screen to work off. The stable is not complaining. We can go and see the photo. We ran 2nd.

You are a good man Craig but my. Point is, on the evidence of the photo provided in this thread, a dead heat is the worst you should have gotten.

So be it, then the judges got it wrong.

I have no stake in the argument as I had no money invested, I didn't even watch the race live. I do, however pride myself in the fact that I get finishes right. This one they got wrong unless I can see a digital image where the other horse had a nose hair protruding over the line where yours didn't.

Yip the photo provided, is it the original? Maybe visit the Stipes and ask for an original then make up your mind. Assumptions are the mother of all f#@k ups!

I think if a line is inserted onto that photo, the result will show a dead-heat because of the thinness/thickness of the line once enlarged. If that is not the official photo, then why make a call off that?
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.
