I may take the p1ss a bit about Nico and personally I dislike his commentaries big time but please all, remember this about his commentaries and not about him as a person. He may well be one of the best guys in SA, I have no idea. But his chosen profession is, as others have said, to commentate and create the picture through facts as much as possible for the general public. He simply failed to do that on Saturday, the point isn't what looked likely to happen, the point is what looked likely did not happen. He should be good enough to say it as it is, not what it looks like or what he hopes. The problem with him and some others is they get too excited about it for whatever reason and want to start shrieking before they should.
But, let us be fair then to Nico. If I remember rightly, Alistair called one wrong on Thursday. Pretty sure, though less blatant, Dumpy called one wrong on Friday, Nico called it wrong before the line on Saturday. Draw your own conclusions.

Nobody that is passionate about what they do will do so without a mistake at some point. We all make them but are fortunate enough to not have them on public display.
Sirens Call looked a winner track side but I thought that the horse changed legs at a crucial point that cost it momentum as it did appear to come again.
Not Nico's best call but is the fuss justified?
He is generally a fair caller and I think it is tough to keep emotion out of it at times.

i don't mind his commentaries as much as i used to , especially when he ran through the entire field at the end in one breath, however i still can't stand the brown nose stuff , it's frankly quite smelly :pinch:

Ive noticed a decline in commentary over the last few years, even the cape commentators are sub standard, especially at the finish they get the places wrong often, watch today and you will see. Has the commentary box been moved or the angles of cameras changed at kenilworth?

Is it not just part and parcel of a lowering of the bar in the industry?............some even seem to think calling a result other than at the finish line, is also good enough!
This criticism is not about the passion or emotion, its about calling the finish, AT the finish!

In all honesty...I can remember listening on the radio to commentaries, to my horse (the one I punted...hehe) fighting out the finish...and then seeing the Duff's and Computaform photos weeks later...and the horse was 6 lengths back...was passed at the 200m mark...
I think that technology coupled with many more eyes and a forum to comment has exaggerated the differences as compared to the past....
luckily I can watch the race for myself a lot more now....

I dont agree in making it personal and being rude to nico guys....but this is not the first time and his first mistake. He also brown noses quite a bit and has preference when Striker rides. There is no place for someone who is biased to do a commentary job.

And how many of you will be able to call just 1 race???You blokes remind me of the rugby or cricket experts...those dudes who has never touched a rugby ball or swung a cricket bat but knows all da shit. Most on here can't pick a winner to save his own ass,but always easy to pass judgement...

P.S...Let's not forget we are ALL human...and its in our nature to make mistakes, even the SAME mistakes over and over.

I always love this logic.......so if you can't cook you must never complain about being served shit food?
