i think Quinton de kock should come into the side to replace kallis
smith Peterson amla de Villiers du plessis duminy de kock philander steyn morkel then parnell/Peterson/tahir depending on conditions
duminy and du plessis need to work on their bowling to make up a fifth bowler

I think de Kock will definitely come into the team at some stage, but not as a replacement to Kallis; he should be given a chance to open with either Peterson (if he can keep up his recent run of good innings') or Smith in a dead rubber - then in the future I see him as possibly taking over the opener's position from Smith and the wicket keeping from AB, who would then be captaining the side - the problem though with having an opener keeping wicket, is that he has to come in to bat after having potentially spent 120 overs keeping wicket - probably not a viable option in the long run - so it is possible that he could for now just come in as batsmen in the middle order (replacing Kallis) with AB still keeping wicket, but that will still leave us short of a seamer, unless we can find a quality spinner - which would mean that Steyn, Morkel and Philander could do the job :S

Umlilo... I couls give a huge response but trying to keep it as simple as possible, I see SA are now in a very strong winning positioning. That is the huge contribution that the innings Jacques played has made. Not everyone can score at a run a ball. It does not mean they are not top-notch in what they do. Giving a really stupid example but hopefully one that makes the point a little. On a pitch that is highly beneficial for spin, we do not say that Steyn is not a great bowler simply because he can't adapt his bowling to deliver spin now do we? Do we say as another example Dravid was not a top class batsman simply because he was surrounded by some very quick scorers in the Indian line-up? Dravid imo was another great batsman.
Neelan... the Aussies are a very ordinary team imo and the score in the Ashes is more down to the England side imo. I would expect SA to defeat the Aussies comfortably with or without Jacques. Imo you are being somewhat stubborn and single-minded. You have again failed to answer the direct questions posed as to replacements and instead built a theory around not needing an all-rounder. That is fair as is that is inevitably what will happen because SA simply do not have another Kallis in the wings, bet they would like one or two though! Would I prefer another Kallis allowing me much more leeway in my selection, of course I would, of course everyone would. The question is not whether SA will continue to be a major force in test cricket for some years to come, probably the world number onel, as imo that is almost a foregone conclusion, the question is was/is Jacques a great player and will he be missed from the SA team and world cricket, and somewhat arrogantly I have to say that anyone who answers that question "no" is seriously in need of a cricket knowledge/appreciation implant or three!
All that said, I have to be fair to you and you have repeatedly acknowledged he is a good player, simply that he won't be missed drastically and that could be true as SA do have a very strong nucleus of other players... Smith, Amla, AB, Steyn, Philander etc against whom many a test team will continue to struggle (tu)
PS Thanks Mav, touched

de kock is the next adam gilchrist
he must keep and bat at 7 so de Villiers can bat at 4 and score more runs
opening keeping not possible too much pressure

Can I ask a question here ... does a team have to stay with one wicketkeeper per match?
What I'm leading up to is - why not have both AB and de Kock keep wicket in the same match (not at the same time, of course not!)?
Pardon me if I'm asking a stoopid question and it is completely against the rules of the game!

Perfectly legal. Can swap anytime. In the first test Amla kept a few overs while AB bowled.

Can i ask a question. If it is so hard to face a new ball on a tricky wicket, why not put your tail end in first to try hang in and softe the ball. Im surprised nobody has tried it yet.

OYW... that is quite simple, you are quite likely to be 10-5 after an hour and going in at the score will naturally change the mind-set of your better players. If the pitch is likely to be like that for only an hour, there is an argument to use a night watchman but he is of course much less likely to survive.

I agree with Pirates entirely. Now for the Sponsor who will step in and make a huge offer to the Kallis foundation for him to play the Aussies..... and get the 80 odd runs, to become no.2 of all time.
As for the few who dont understand test cricket and the giant that Kallis has been, I tender no argument. The facts are there, digest them.
And Darryl Cullinan can only dream. His jealousy overflows ! What a wanker !
