Not withstanding the fact that King Kallis is from the WC (lol) he still IS the BEST allrounder in the world playing today, only Gary Sobers is comparable to him.

Jacques WILL be missed in the Batting, Bowling & Changeroom departments. Mark my words and see how the Protea's overall performance will be negatively affected by the absence of a CLASS allrounder.

I can not believe some of the shyte written on this thead - all I can think is some okes must be suffering from a Christmas Lunch hangover - it's not really about whether he is replaceable, but on what he contributed over 18 years - somebody would take his place, but I can't believe that anybody could think that the 'new guy' would measure up to what Kallis brought to the table as a genuine all-rounder ?

I have said it before - the unfortunate thing about being the top side in the world, is that you can't really improve - and without Kallis it is not impossible that we will not be at No 1 by the end of 2014

The Aussie tests could be the turning point - I really hope not - but we have some elder statesmen (Smith and even Steyn) that won't be around for much longer and the younger guys (apart from Philander) have not really shown that they are ready to take over

Frodo....remember...Kallis was also a 'new guy' once.So you cant judge the 'new guys' yet....
LAst question to those that say Kallis is great...In the 18 years he has played...whenever was there ever more than 3 Good-Brilliant teams at the same time???So most of the time...he played against 'weak' teams....when it mattered MOST...he failed!

He was a Good player!

:S H when has there ever been 3 Good-Brilliant teams at the same time, how do you decide that? Kallis played at the same time as all the guys who fill the top spots in test records for batting plus he was a very useful bowler with a very good pair of hands. He most definitely should go down as a great player and is most worthy of that title. You should have stood with the Barmy Army playing against SA, opposition "fans" are often a big indicator as to whose is the most prized wicket, the one that gives you that extra hope and belief you can win if you get him cheaply... without any doubt at all, that man when we played SA was Jacques. You don't replace players like Kallis (unless you are very very fortunate), you have to build a team a little differently, an all-rounder with his ability (and his stats stand up pretty well!) is almost irreplaceable by one single player. Now ssshhh and just say, well played Jacques and thanks ;)

Thanks, Englander, for the kind wishes.

We will miss Kallis sorely I'm thinking. But I'm a little puzzled why he is so seldom considered in people's shortlists of Great Players.

Is it because he is a rather quiet individual ... one that doesn't swagger to the wicket or pump his fist or act like a showman? I read something yesterday that queried why he'd never written (or had ghosted) any sort of autobiography, and suggested the bitchy little possibility that it was because he didn't have much between the ears. There are some sad f@@@ks out there.

And yes, indeed we will miss him against the Ozzies. Useless to try and sledge Jacques Kallis! You might as well try and insult a mountain ... it will take no notice and you will just look stoopid.
