Not bad when it's your 45th test century in your final test innings.

115 from 316 balls ... slow, yes, but not overslow for test cricket. That 100 meant a lot to Kallis and just as much to his team.

Darryl Cullinan slams 'Kallis show' - News 24
The jealousy is another issue but the observation is spot on!
Kallis's scoring rate has always been questionable and he often avoided taking on the bowlers; Steyn was doing a far better job than him when it came to playing attacking cricket. For that matter, Faf and Petersen scored at a faster rate; that says it all! Glory and record book stats before a result?
The other point is: if he was so good, why was he not always opening the innings and facing fresh onslaughts with the new ball?

The innings jacques played fell directly into the context of the match. SA were on the backfoot with 3 down and they needed a kallis "special" ie 115 off 316 balls to swing the match back in their favour. Yet again he came to the rescue. BUT dont be fooled...if under different circumstances and he had to chase the game it could have been completely different outcome!

Umlilo, not all great batsman open the innings.
India 334 all out
SA 102-0
SA 112-3
Now, would people prefer SA 112-4 with Kallis gone or Kallis holding the innings together with the more attacking players around him and reaching 424-7?
Cullinan... :S Thought he might understand test cricket a little better :S

besides cullinan i have heard fanie de villiers have plenty negative remarks to say about the current test side...its almost if some of the ex players are so jealous of this teams success that they are green with envy and would prefer them to fail

@Englander:
'Umlilo, not all great batsman open the innings.'
Point noted and agreed!
Disputed is: did he play consistently to maximise winning chances, or, to embellish his stats and the record books?
Today, how often he refused to take a single with the last one or two balls and allowed the scoring momentum to drop..... and leave a lower order batsman (Steyn) to 'face the music'? At the same time, Steyn whacked a good few 4's whereas Kallis played tip-tap shots.
For instance, over time: How many times was he run out? On the other hand, how many times was he responsible for his partner to be run out?
Just my observation without denying him his place in history.
