Where are all the people to respond about Hollywood refunding. Are they or are they not?

What I fail to understand....Why cannot the Stipes overrule the Starter (who obviously made a mistake)....
Why can they not use a siren to signify a false start....imagine using a microswitch in each pen to activate a false start...farking old technology....
Why can we see that the starting stalls are a problem....and the operators cannot....

A comedy of errors, from the Vet, the Starter thru to the Stipes, each of who should of done the correct thing but did not, thus compounding the problem. Just not good enough in a multi million Rand industry.

As for the starting gates being antiquated. Maybe but I own a 1938 Packard and all it parts are still working perfectly. Why, plain and simple due to the maintenace done. The starting gates are likewise a mechanical device that are not, by any strech of the imagination, subjected to excessive use or force above their design criteria. So IMO it leaves just one scenario, inadequate maintenance which is in itself is incompetence. Get new starting gates and with no maintenence they WILL also very soon not operate correctly, then guess what, back to square one.

To me it appears that the whole Racing Industry, from A to Z, is on a steep downward slide and will continue until it implodes leaving us only memories of our beloved sport.

Cheers, just opened another bottle of Cab Sav.

Guys this afternoons debacle leaves a very bitter taste in the mouths of all punters. On a very positive note Hats off to WSB - they refunded me in full , handling the matter as true professionals as the bet I took was substantial. I often read about negative comments about WSB and the positives about other bookmakers and hope to my fellow clanners that your bookmakers have offered the same gesture of goodwill that WSB as done for me.

those negative comments regarding wsb are well justified and plenty of their ex customers will attest to it....USELESS

Fogwils... you make a fair point but the main issue to me with the stalls is not just simply the false starts. I am no expert but I watch enough racing to know that I see more problems in the stalls and breaking through them etc in SA racing than I have anywhere else, though I admit I watch SA racing far more than anywhere else. They appear to be dangerous to both horse and jockey and that is the major issue to me. Better schooling is also probably an issue that needs attention. I fear the day when horse, jock or both will receive serious injury which could have been avoided. Enjoy the wine ;)

Ram, I actually sympathise with your sentiments, to a degree (which is unusual in itself as I don't think owners or anyone else directly concerned in racing generally pays the punters enough respect) But, what about the 20 punters who each lost R25k backing that horse?

Hi Englander

I concur with ur thoughts wrt the Safety aspect. But my point is that the Risks to the Horses and Jocks with the present starting stalls is man made with inadequate maintenace, which in itself is criminal. I am not a fundi on starting stalls but do know about Engineering principals wrt to the correct and operating of machinery.

There is constant developement in all spheres of life and so with starting stalls. I concur that the latest and safest gates should be sourced at all Tracks in RSA.

Ram, just an opinion

Just like how the punters are fighting for fairness in the sport, why dont you as an owner also fight the same battle to get your expenses refunded by Gold Circle.
