Yes Ronnie Sjkoldhammer could fire I sometimes followed him around the ring watching him take the bookies on. Man he could hit them hard.

Ronnie was fearless...once helped him get on a horse @ the Vaal that Jean Hemming trained for him...the figures were scary, even in todays terms..

Thanks for that Khargis... Yes, good memories of Ascot. You're obviously from Bulawayo. Magic Lips also came from Bullies and so did Clifton King but he's in Aus now. Do you know what became of anyone else you can remember?

Yep, Pat Ruck, Tommy's widow, moved back to theUK, as did Ronnie & Sheila Watson. I believe Jack Muir (Big patron of Bulawayo racing) moved to Cape Town & unfortunately developed cancer and passed away there. Mike Gaines-Burrell fell off a horse and also died. Sharon Patterson told me Noel Riddle (fearless and powerful jockey) pegged too. Must be our age... Dave McNab was busy drinking himself into a coma last time I saw him, and I'd be surprised if he was still around. Gerald Lerman (bookie) & Des James (bookie) Also gone to Neverland. I'm sure there are many more, and I'll list them as I remember them.
Go on to Google Earth and look at what's happened to the Racecourse proper. I'm so sad 'cos I spent many happy days & nights there.

Yeah Ronnie Watson - trained Admiral's Feast.
And Gerald Lerman - I went to school with his son.
Do you remember Jimmy Hollyhead?
I believe there is now a casino at Ascot?

Which son? I was in the army with Robert & Barry trained for me after Tommy died. Robert went bookmaking in Springs for a while, I believe.
