Tommy Ruck passed away in September 1998. The last winner he trained, posthumously, was Smart Card, which was for me. She was ridden by another memory, Theo Venter, now living in the UK.
Tom Fleming, I believe, is out of racing and moved to PMB.
RIP Ascot Racecourse

Seems like nobody wants to be reminded about old stipes ( lol ) what of jockey Dean Russell. Also remember Darren Haw from Aus. Stayed with Bachmann for a while we used to have a few pots with him. He also tried his hand with Tellytrack at one time but believe he's back in Aus.

I wonder how many ex jocks are still fit enough to ride in say one sprint race. I recall Gold Circle had a veterans race which was staged once a year. I'm sure Dennis Bosch Patrick Foord and A few others (can't remember the names of all those that took part) rode in it

Here is another jockey that had a lot of talent but never really rode to his full potential. Who on here remembers Allan Levy???
C'mon guys cast your mind back 25 years at least - Allan Levy won the Cape Derby 2000m on Mark Anthony in 1987. Not the friendliest person you could hope to find but nevertheless a great jockey, I wish some clanner could give a pointer about his station in life. C'mon Titch - take me out of my misery.

Regretfully Bashful Allan died some years back as did his sister Debby who was Grant Kotzen's partner at the time of his passing, Grant IMO would have been one of the greatest jocks this country has ever produced..there was also a Gerald Levy (no relation) who rode for trainer Brian Cunningham and owner Ronnie Hammer..

Thanks Titch.
I remember going to Kimberley with the jockeys in the bus departing from Newmarket Race Course. You just had to be there on time and ask the driver who was always too keen on having somebody to "stand" next to him and keep him company all the way there and back. The jocks didn't mind either. We never paid for our trips to Flamingo Park.
Alan Levy was then getting the lesser rides only and was not very popular amongst the jockeys often getting into fights in the bus on the way back. He could not stand to ride amongst the weaker jockeys and would often claim that he had the measure of the best jockeys. You just had to agree with this bloke. He had a very short fuse wick imo.

His very erratic behaviour was his downfall but the boy could ride...
