HORSERACISM STARTS 'EM EARLY?

My Grade 10 grand-daughter skimmed through yesterday's The Citizen's Racing Express (the full page advert with the names/piks of celebrities alongside the horses they represent) and noted the following:

'Why is there NOT EVEN ONE INDIAN amongst the celebrities? The only Coloured seems to be Gerry Elsdon!
She and the rest should boycott this event because that is not what brings about reconciliation in our country!'

She was referring to the names representing horses in the Peermont Emperor's Palace Charity Mile.

Say, think, comment.... what you feel like; the message has registered!

With all due respect - give it a rest - why must race/colour/politics be dragged into everything :(

Imo, all gr10 learners (not to mention anyone else who wants to make this country their home) should be more concerned on the consequences of our government ignoring court orders :X

Not Racist but bad marketing - Natal is kept going by Indian punters and I have many Indian mates in Gauteng that are Sick for the game and there are many big Indian owners in Gauteng. Money knows no race

umlilo it make me sad that a child in grade 10 in our country still see people as the certain "colour" in 2012. my daughter finish school last year as in the old days you will call her "coloured", her mom is coloured and i am the greek. it was fantastic for me to see that she and her friends who went to a previous afrikaans model c school in meyerton were more concerned about boys, fashions, tv shows than colour. in fact when she have sleep overs through the years we have the league of nations stay in our house.i am sorry to say may be she is learning from her dad to look for the difference in skin colours and that will be the sad thing for her. in my life i have to be scared of knock on the door because the person i marry is not the right pigment skin. let us celebrate our freedom, yes even as a white man i am free for first time in 1994, and lets move forward not wait in the past

I agree - the title of this threat though speaks of racism and not marketing

@FH:

Like your family, mine is equally Coloured/mixed; Indians, Coloureds, African, white, etc. Even different religious groups- Chrisitan, Muslim, Hindu.... and Jewish! My grandkids also in 'league of nations' for Eid, birthdays, sleepovers, etc!

What many who post personal attacks have not (and will never) experience the reality outside our homes! As such, they lack the empathy to understand what we are saying and resort to burying their heads in the sand or making insulting, sarcastic comments.

You will note that such children are not racist per se, but observant and far more caring and understanding. They also get involved in community projects without a chip on their shoulder or for 'glory'! My grand-daughter is onvolved with an old age home.

@JTL:

I feel sorry for your likes who think you have a 'baaskaap' monopoly on who is and isn't 'racist'; you head it! This country is not for you, despite all our problems! There are those who are making concerted effrots to bring about mutual understanding and respect! This forum has made substantial strides in bridging that gap..., and the industry is for all who live in this country..... not your sanctified territory!

People like me are also sick and tired of whingers like you who still carry 'apartheid's' albatross on your shoulders!

i agree with MR.H....once u see it as racism..u stir a pot,thats got no broth in this instance....this is just bad marketing...and look its already having an effect on u.....if u took the time out and advised your youngster that not everything needs to be looked at in the light of racism ,u would be saving a child from becoming militant against society...Look i am indian...and if my child said something like that to me,i would try change his mindset..once the mindset is changed....progress can occur...but i WILL agree with u on the fact thats its mighty POOR marketing from their side..
