Definately not a 2 horse race. I will be with Striker. Wont even consider Fortune, he is past his sell by date.

No H, he got a suspension that extended from 2 weeks to a self imposed 8 months
he actually thrives on critic and it was in fact a statement made by a well known racing personality much along the same lines as KittyK that he would never get back into the saddle that has got him going again...
@Kitty if only you knew how many people said that 3 years ago just before he won the title...

the below press release has been sent to the jocks
PRESS RELEASE
RACING
Over the years the Jockeys’ Championship has been based on rides in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Whilst this is historical, in recent times there have been various comments about whether the Jockeys’ Championship should include rides in Zimbabwe or whether it should be based on rides in South Africa only.
Whilst the National Horseracing Authority is responsible for the regulation of the sport of horseracing in both South Africa and Zimbabwe, they remain two countries, each with its own identity.
It therefore makes sense that if South Africa is to give recognition to riders for their achievements, that any such recognition should be based on achievements within the borders of South Africa.
As South Africa is only two weeks into its racing season and the racing season in Zimbabwe will only begin in September, it is an opportune time to revisit the Statistics which determine the Jockeys’ Championship.
Kindly be advised that the Jockeys’ Championship awarded in South Africa, henceforth, will be based on rides in South Africa only.

Forgive me Titch, but why such negetivity? I know Andrew helped with Gavin's rides in the Cape, but were you agent for Zim? Did you lose out on a kickback from the prize money? An honest question...
What about the rumour about Gavin "buying" rides from trainers, by allegedly offering to waiver his share of the stakes to the trainers? Is this true?

Never did his Zim rides just the one Scottsville meeting (he drew a blank) but that is not what has got my back up ..what has however is the fact that after 40 years plus there is a 250k prize offered and just one year later the rules are amended whether for the betterment or not it is shocking that an age old tradition that saw the likes of Muis Roberts win his title is "sold" ... the title race last season was ignited by the fact that an "under dog" was in the mix and had a chance right up till the last day of the season, something that IMO did not suit the sponsors so to ensure that there is a minimum risk of the same thing reoccuring rules are amended...this years title chase will be a boring affair and if the truth be told will be a somewhat hollow victory....there is a valid point that SA titles should be earned within our borders as is the point that the most successful SA based jock in terms of races won should be crowned champion, I just feel that the latter gives the under dog a chance and in a small way levels the playing fields...'
finally, with respect, your question re donating his share of the stakes to trainers to get the rides is at the very best laughable, at the Scottsville meeting that he rode at I suggested that we ask his cousin Brandon for 2 rides on the day Snappy lad and Wild Type as both had big winning chances, his immediate response was a very definite NO...I suppose that one could say that decision may have cost him the title and that was family who he could quite easily have offered riding fee and stakes earned to (both horses won)
