Here is a difference between racing in the U. S. and S. A.

Because it was decided not to run Ebony Flyer in the Durban July, many fans are disappointed the filly will not take her chance in the country's premier race. Some fans have been waiting for her to stretch out over ground and challenge the top middle distance stars in South Africa. They wonder why the connections will not allow her this opportunity, especially since she is in form at present.

In America, if a filly that had never raced beyond a mile and was coming off a sprint was sent 2200m against the top older males in the country, the hue and cry coming from racing fans would reach dizzying heights, as the connections would be cited for abuse and egotism in equal parts.

So in SA, the decision is met with disappointment, while in the US it would be met with horor.

I find this difference to be interesting.

Will making a big HOOHAA about it change the decision to then race her? I think not, so why make a big deal out of it? The Americans have a lot of energy to waste
