Johnny, I don't say MJB wasn't gaining, I just didn't think it was gaining quickly enough. I would have loved it to have won, 300 quid to me. At the time I didn't think Contrador had interfered to any great degree, everything just said to me MJB wasn't close enough and at no point did I think he was going to get up. That said, I have seen the photo still of the finish and MJB is closer at the line than I thought.
Having backed the derby "winner" the other day and having had that review not upheld, I think it quite natural that I would think this one had no chance. Johnny, I can bang my fists and shake my rattle as much as I like but it won't change anything. What I really want is both the correct decision and consistency. I have now lost over 90% of the races where I have punted a horse involved in a review and I always seem to lose out to a shorter-priced horse, maybe just coincidence but it doesn't sit well with me. As DTF said, had the horse that was interfered with in the Derby been the favourite, would they still have left the result unchanged? I say unlikely, those that think I am just "scaremongering" will say I'm being stupid. I can handle that... because I'm not stupid

Anyway, bottom line to me... as I said before... consistency consistency consistency!!!!!!!!

The only way we will ever get complete consistency is if the rule is changed to if you cause any intereference you get put behind the horse you interfered with. I know alot of people dont like it this way but I cannot see any other way. Surely the Jhb bump 4 strides before the line must have made a difference, even an inch? Photofinish would have then picked up a winner.

Scotia I agree - I watched this race a few times and cannot agree with the stipes here - not one inch. However it is final and how painfull it is, I have to live with the result.....I will however be on the phone today to Dave Durant - not that I expect any action or changes but to give him and his stipes a piece of my mind.

Flash Harry - ones options are limited as it is difficult to take on the 'people who protects the integrity of racing'. Anton could not say much yesterday in the Boardroom nor can Charles or even I for that matter. We will be slapped with 'bringing racing into disrepute' and the result of this I do not even want to think about....

Herewith the Stipes report for race 8. I had a chat with the Chairperson of the KZN Stipes Board (Mr Sean Parker) and he confirmed the reason for the objection as per the report. He was very willing to discuss this issue and we had a nice discussion - very open and transparent. I think this issue is now closed and will look to the future - good news is Anton thinks this horse will easily get 1600m and will be better over further and this opens up some other possiblities.
The Stipendiary Stewards Reported (RJ): CONTADOR (A Marcus) : Placed third. Selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D Moore standing in for Trainer C Laird advised (TN).
At approximately the 250 metre mark CONTADOR (A Marcus) hanging out, shifted out carrying MY JELLY BEAN (C Orffer) outwards off a straight course until inside the 100 metre mark. This resulted in MY JELLY BEAN (C Orffer) having to be eased momentarily and switched inwards off the heels of CONTADOR (A Marcus) to obtain a clear run.
An objection was lodged by a Stipendiary Steward on behalf of the third placed horse MY JELLY BEAN (C Orffer) against the winner, CONTADOR (A Marcus) on the grounds of interference over the final 250 metres. After viewing the patrol videos from the various angles, considering the evidence presented and the distance of 0.35 lengths between these two horses, the Board was of the opinion that but for the interference MY JELLY BEAN (C Orffer) would have beaten CONTADOR (A Marcus). Therefore the Board upheld the objection and amended the Judge’s result.
Jockey K Latham the rider of GO AGAIN (5.10 lengths) reported that he felt something amiss with this colt in running.
Jockey B Fayd’Herbe the rider of CONISTON GOLD (4.35 lengths) reported this filly continuously changing legs in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine GO AGAIN and CONISTON GOLD.
JADE BAY (A Delpech) : Forced to ease momentarily at approximately the 100 metre mark and in view of this colt’s performance the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine JADE BAY.
Jockey, Equipment and Race Card Changes: CONTADOR : Raced equipped with blinkers. (Change done on the 01.05.2012 at 07h42)
Jockey B Fayd’Herbe the rider of CONISTON GOLD weighed out at 58.3kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight of 57.5kg.
The Veterinary Surgeon Reported: GO AGAIN : Nothing obvious detected.
CONISTON GOLD : Nothing obvious detected.
JADE BAY : Not striding out behind.
Judge’s Result of Race 8 :
HORSE TRAINER JOCKEY BETTING DISTANCES
FIRST No.2 CONTADOR C Laird A Marcus 6/1 - -
SECOND No.7 OTTIMO (AUS) I Moore F Coetzee 9/2 0.10 0.10

Homer, can you advise what was said that has "mellowed" you? Did he simply re-iterate what was in the report and you ultimately accepted that but continue to disagree?
By the way, for all my "anger" I am fully aware your "pain" must be a thousand times worse! I hope in some way it is seen as supporting you though... and in truth, I only backed Contrador because of your confidence (tu)

Craig, I think, and obviously please correct me I am wrong, that everyone thinks that Royal Bencher should have been awarded the Derby? Assuming that is the case then surely the bigger problem is not the wording but the stipes themselves choosing to disregard the rule when they please? Or do they have the discretion to do so? I don't know the actual wording of the laws. Part of my problem with MJB yesterday is I simply can't see how he was interfered with greater than RB and therefore logic said to me he should keep the race. I accept the stipes yesterday are entitled to a different opinion and think MJB might have got up, I don't agree with them but I can accept that. The reasoning behind RB not getting the Derby, as shown on the other thread, is just mind-boggingly dumb to put in bluntly. That is the consistency I am looking for and I don't mind out how they get there but surely they do have to get there!

If My Jelly Bean wouldve definitely beaten Contidor, then surely shouldve been awarded the race as Ottimo was beaten fair and square by contidor.
Anyway, all the best Homer, hearing this horse will be better over further has made me very excited for your horse mate, you will have fun with this colt.
