Cant enjoy this race,as a small time owner even all the money in the world could no get me to enter this race, you clear 1 hurdle, and the next hurdle your horse could be put down, sorry guys i like feeding carrots to my horses at the stables after a run,win or loose.

The thing that gets me about the Grand National is that it is almost a certainty that all the starters won't survive. Deaths occur in all sorts of races, notoriously including the recent Dubai Gold Cup, but with the National the risk is too high. There is a big difference between a small possibility of a horse dying in the name of sport, and a near-certainty of it happening. The attrition rate in the National is simply too high, in my humble opinion.

Watched the race at the club with about 50 big 1st team rugby players and families. Wish I had left it on the rugby. I kept quiet and all I could hear were them calling it disgraceful, cruel and worst of all that if this is what horse people call sport, they will ever get involved or watch any racing again. To me the field size is too big and they should race the best 20-25 and that is it. Most fall when they hit a horse that has fallen already. We cannot keep condoning the way it is run at the moment.

Making the race "safer" has not worked imo,it has just attracted classier/faster horses .Changing the fences has also made them more dangerous now that they are not so big the horses are jumping flatter and faster.
Ginger Macain (god bless em) said years ago that this would happen,no one listened..
ps although we had one of our best results in our shop,we were a few hundred bets lighter this year and we have been on a slight upswing the last few months. So maybe its losing its razzle a bit anyway?

Animal welfare campaigners blasted Saturday's race as "the worst kind of mob entertainment".
