VAN ZYL FINED R110,000 ON DOPE CHARGE

TRAINER Gavin van Zyl has been fined R110,000 for being the person responsible for RILEY’S STAR at the time when a urine specimen taken from him after he won at Scottsville on 22 June 2011 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Methylprednisilone, a prohibited substance in terms of the rules of the National Horseracing Authority.

Van Zyl pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

Since this was the trainer’s third contravention of Rule 73.2.4 ,and having heard evidence from Van Zyl and the veterinary surgeon who treated Riley’s Star, the inquiry board imposed a fine of R110,000.

. Methylprednisolone is a synthesized adrenal steroid. It is a 6-methyl derivative of prednisolone and exceeds prenisolone in anti-inflammatory

Drifted from 8/1 to 12/1. It ran 8th & 9th in it's previous two starts.
