It may have been an over confident ride, but Andrew Fortune does have the ability to make a horse look like it's got a ton of running left when in fact it's on its last legs. This talent is a gift, but at times like this it is also a curse. Now I don't profess to know whether Winter Dynasty was being held together quietly in a desperate bid to hang on in front, or whether Andrew tried to get "cute" and overdid it, but I'm reasonably sure that Mrs Plattner is not the sort of punting owner who would really care which one of her horses wins.
I'm also reasonably sure that beating the sh*t out of a horse to make it go faster doesn't work with every horse, and here we have one that was only racing for the second time and still learning the ropes. I do know even without evetr having ridden myself that it probably takes even more skill than the outstanding talent possessed by Andrew Fortune to deliberately lose a race by such a narrow margin.
I'd have to watch the race again to satisfy myself, but on the one viewing that I had at the time I'd say it's unfair to call for Andrew Fortune's public decapitation, which seems to be the only thing that would satisfy some critics. They seem to forget that he has managed to win on horses that only a handful of other jockeys on the planet would not have been beaten on, by riding them in a "soft" manner. Maybe he did stuff this one up, maybe he didn't, but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt - this time.

he has been suspended more than three times for the same offence...
he cannot ride the carded weight (he could not ride 58 on saterday)...
how can he be given the benefit of doubt, he is a serial offender...
while the poor voiceless punter losses...
it should not be allowed to happen again.

Titch your loyalty to your friend is admirable, but its time for you to walk away from this topic.Which ever way we slice it,it was a overconfident ride by Andrew that went horribly wrong.I am not one of the critics who think he pulled the horse.A horse that is only having its second run and hits the front so far out will be green and looking around and the worst thing you can do as ajockey is to quitely nurse it along. The horse needs to be aggresively ridden to keep its mind on the job.Horses that need to be nursed alongand ridden in a soft manner are mostly fillies who have soured to the game and old timers with bad legs.Andrew once told me that he rides the way he does is because if he was more vigourous on horses it would be him on his last legs and not the horse, needless to say he was drugging at the time and may have been joking

Tangles point taken regarding walking away from the subject my views and others are well documented but it is not a matter of me defending a friend but more a case of telling it as I believe it to be and no matter how much the subject is debated nobody it seems is about to change their views (including me) so we can all agree to disagree and move on..

Titch,you theoretically rested your case @ 6:46 pm on Sat......Fark you've certainly re-opened it a few times.......lol
This thread has now become a bit like wiping your bum with a hula-hoop......round and round and the shyte remains!
The pity is that the if the NHA sorted their rules out and enforced them a lot of the arguments would go away.Lets look forward to it being independant and the board no longer consisting of honorary positions!

Titch, you not a failed lawyer by any chance. From all the comments I've read, it seems like Andrew "slipped up", yet you are defending him to the death...vested interest, coupled with inside info...perhaps.
Without taking anything away from Fourie, this thread is not about him.
Also have to agree with some posters. I do not believe Andrew is that articulate in his writing...the way a man speaks, will in all likelyhood be the way he expresses himself in writing.
As I said in a previous post... "Shakespeare once said...tch, tch, or should it be Titch..Titch...the man protests too much.
And I say....I wonder why?
