Does this not give the insiders, including owners,that are in the know, an unfair advantage over the "average" punter in the totes,many whose budgets are strained to include the 'unknown' factors.
( Perhaps this is the time to re-name the Jackpot bet @ Flamingo Park........."spot the trier" .... lol)
Not speaking for myself as this suits my strategy,but question the fairness to the smaller punter.
If the tote needs a "Big Payout bet" why not a, single line(no perm),winner of all races on the card,bet. lots of carryovers and if it gets to a 52 week carryover...great.All tickets cost the same with a lotto type chance.Will probably start slowly but watch it build as the pools grow!

Think its a good change. Gives punters the option. Can either take the p6 with the couplings or the jackpot without them. Offers different players the variety.

It's going to be a nightmare in kimberley mark my words, especially with Spies & P.Miller runners , sometimes having 4 or five - ( last week 7 runners in 1 race )
wait till a 100/1 shot blows out a 22/ 10 STABLE COMPANION......... the trainers interview will be interesting to say the least ( that's if they dare come to the interview ) I guess soon we'll soon see more jockey interviews rather than TRAINER interviews.

Rob i think you got a GOOD IDEA there, just like the powerball...... people only take it seriously when POWERBALL is 40 MIL +
while we on STRAIGHT LINE P6 or pik 9 ? the Mrs. & I were on course TURFF last Sat. she had virtually straight line P6
First 5 races.... banker, last race FIELD....... she went out LEG 5 with Banker # 1, Gunthers horse at any price. SHE NEVER HAD THE LAIRD DEADHEATERS...... she had the " OTHER " two...... " her " P6 dividend paid R 308,000 she was going 50% for R7.
Had Gunther won she would have been the ONLY winner on that combination................ IT WAS A GOOD RUN WHILE IT LASTED.
To help her thru the P6 I backed FANIE CHAMBERS / ST. JOHN.......... R 7 I think..... not too shabby R10/ 1 a win, about 3.50 a place.

This change will certainly make this more difficult, especially for those 'wrong ones' winning from a stable, but will help the payouts. I've been sticking to playing the quartets and pick six when there are carryovers, but maybe we'll get a few jackpots carrying over as well.

@frodo:
write in to Gauteng Gambling Board and register your objection. Preferably, motivate your objection to this change of rule, citing kimberley as an example!

I do not object - I merely pointed out the new rule - haven't quite made up my mind on where I stand with this - not sure that the Peter Miller factor should be allowed to influence the success or not of the rule - if the 'wrong' ones keep on winning, this needs to be addressed by the NHA; however I do think that perhaps first timers should still qualify as the run-of the-mill punter in the street is surely ad a disadvantage here - so maybe that part could be objected against
