Frankie still winning

The James Owen-trained  Wimbledon Hawkeye  made a successful raid in the US, taking out the $3.5 million Nashville Derby at Kentucky Downs with Frankie Dettori aboard. The three-year-old, owned by the Gredley family, had gone close in six starts in Britain without winning this season, including finishing third in the Dante and a nose second to Merchant in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on his last start.

much-anticipated third showdown between  Ombudsman  and  Delacroix  in next week's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes is off after connections of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Juddmonte International winner have decided to freshen him up for a busy autumn campaign.Following Delacroix’s defeat of the John and Thady Gosden-trained four-year-old in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, Ombudsman settled the score when stretching three and a half lengths clear of that rival at York last month. Speaking from Ballydoyle at a press morning on Monday ahead of the Irish Champions Festival,  Aidan O'Brien implored the Gosden team to bring Ombudsman over to Ireland  and promised a relentless pace to ensure we find out who is the best of the high-class colts. The Gosden stable has won the Irish Champion Stakes four times, most recently with Roaring Lion in 2018, but there will be no Clarehaven runner this time. The training duo are to prepare Godolphin's Night Of Thunder colt for an international autumn campaign beginning in the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 18 and then taking in the Breeders' Cup and Japan Cup.

Explosive growth in the use of black market bookmakers means illegal operators now control nine per cent of Britain’s online betting market, according to a report published this week. The report by gambling intelligence platform Yield Sec found that illegal operators earned £379 million in the first half of 2025, with 531 black market sports betting and casino operators actively targeting British customers. That represents a more than tripling in market share since 2022, when just two per cent of betting revenues were attributed by Yield Sec to the black market.

The Scottish Gov has agreed to support the general provisions of a private members bill to outlaw Greyhound racing thus following the Welsh Gov lead.  New Zealand have already done so.
