Mythical flight still going to Ascot?
16 years 4 days agoLast years winner Equiano
Sprinters from as far afield as America, Australia and South Africa feature among 19 speedsters standing their ground for the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.
Spearheading the attack is Scenic Blast, trained in Australia by Daniel Morton.
The five-year-old will attempt to add the British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge to his victory in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington in January.
Wesley Ward's Cannonball is the raider from the USA while Mythical Flight represents South African trainer Sean Tarry.
Equiano became the first Spanish winner at Royal Ascot when taking this prize 12 months ago for Mauricio Delcher Sanchez.
This time he is part of the home brigade having moved to the Barry Hills stable in Lambourn.
Greek import Ialysos made an impressive British debut for Newmarket-based trainer Luca Cumani when scoring at Haydock last month and could now try his hand at the highest level.
Others among a star-studded entry are the ever popular Borderlescott, Tax Free, Fleeting Spirit and Amour Propre.

I am sure JJ could have won over 5 on the Tuesday as a pipe opener for the sat race.

Paco Boy ready for Ascot test after foot infection
PACO BOY had a foot problem when he disappointed in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes but is ready to renew his bid for a first Group 1 success at 1m in Tuesday's Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Derek Lucie-Smith, a member of the Calvera Partnership which owns the colt, said Paco Boy was found to be suffering from "an infected off-forehoof" when he finished fourth in the Newbury Group 1 and remains confident he can make the mile breakthrough at the highest level next week.
Paco Boy was one of ten acceptors for the royal meeting's opening race which drew two supplementary entries, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Main Aim and Mac Love, who gained a first Group success for Stef Liddiard at the Epsom Derby meeting.
Lucie-Smith said: "PacoBoy hung badly in Lockinge and it transpired afterwards that he had an infected off-fore hoof. He ran an incredibly brave race considering. He is fine now. He will run at Ascot provided the ground is not very firm. We pulled him out of the Jersey last year but I think it will be all right.
"We are looking forward to taking on Gladiatorus. We don't know about Main Aim, and nor does anyone else, staying a mile. I know there are a few doubters about Paco Boy staying a mile but we still have complete faith he will get it."

Borderlescott pleasing Bastiman pre-Ascot
ALL the leading fancies for the King's Stand Stakes stood their ground at the latest stage on Wednesday, with the most notable absentee being Kingsgate Native, who was a 12-1 shot for next Tuesday's 5f sprint.
Amour Propre, Scenic Blast and Fleeting Spirit head the 17 runners left in the market, but Robin Bastiman, who trains last season's Nunthorpe winner Borderlescott, is hoping his stable star can put up another bold show in Group 1 company.
"He worked four furlongs with one of my lead horses this morning and he really pleased me. He has come on well for his last two runs and I couldn't be more pleased," said Bastiman on Wednesday.
"He takes a few runs to get himself sorted and he is a hard horse to get fit, usually peaking in July and August. But I'm pleased with his progress and hoping for a good run, although obviously it won't be easy as it's a Group 1 race."
Borderlescott was last seen finishing second in the Temple Stakes at Haydock last month, but neither the ground nor race pace suited the six-year-old, as Bastiman added: "The ground was atrocious at Haydock andhe had to be up there whereas he likes to get a good lead.
"It was a muddling race, but I'm glad that I ran him and he has definitely improved more than the two lengths or so that he was beaten in the Palace House.
"He has definitely come on a lot, but whether Henry Candy's horse [Amour Propre] has come on as well, we'll see.
"He prefers fast ground and a fast-run race. They should definitely go fast and five furlongs is his trip."
Borderlescott is a best-priced 12-1 chance for the King's Stand Stakes, and there looks set to be a strong international presence among the rest of the field. Along with Scenic Blast from Australia, Cannonball representing the USA and Mythical Flight from South Africa have all stood their ground

That picture label is wrong, Dave.
It's Bordelescott beating National Colour, not Mythical Flight. Mythical Flight is a chestnut.

I may be wrong but I seem to recall hearing a couple of seasons ago that Boderlescott is a composite name made up of owners' or family members' names.
Perhaps Hibernia can confirm this.

Dave, I think MDK is of the opinion JJ is looking for further and 1200 is his minimum trip now. Ryan Moore is also of that opinion.
JJ is set to run in the July Cup after Ascot and Im sure MDK has eyed out a few other races during the summer. I personally wouldnt run JJ in the Kings Stand, rather leave him as fresh as possible for Jubilee.
What I've noticed in previous runnings of the Jubilee is that the front runner seems to get run out of it in the final stages, so his extra bit of stamina might be needed, running him in the King Stand a few days before might take that edge off.

Nothing so grand as that for FB. He was nominated for the Durban Merchants next week but drew 33 out of 37 and would have been starting from the Brickhill Road.
Very few races for him but going to try a MR in the next few weeks carrying 62,5 kgs I think. Thinking of riding him myself.
