SA Punters - Why do we cry so much !
16 years 1 month ago
Life as a punter in South Affrica has changed remarkedly over the years. Resources for punters were limited back in the day.
Today's punter now has more choice than ever. With betting available on almost every sporting event, race, or even reality television, anyone can have a go. So much to choose from and so much to lose on if you don't do your homework. In the internet age, you can find information for any betting event within seconds.
The betting scene is eternally evolving - what worked ten years ago probably doesn't work now, and what was successful a generation ago will have completely changed. With so many options of where to bet, when to bet and how to bet, there's no excuse for a punter these days who wants to make a go for it .

Afternoon Gary and have to agree, I guess its just down to the 3 D's
Discipline/Discipline and not forgetting Discipline.
Many choices, good odds and options, just have to be selective.
Its in the nature of a punter to complain.
If we do back a winner, we never have enough staked and if we back a loser the game is fixed or the jockey was at fault.
lol
enjoy the game and blame yourself.

tell me gary is it fair that punters take bets with persopilis at evens then you have two scratchings at 15 percent deductions and the PRICE REMAINS AT EVENS..

Pirate .... my beef exactly !!! If a horse gets scratched , all bets taken PRIOR to the scratching should go Starting Price !!!

things may well have advanced considerably over the years and they continue to do so but sa punters, especially racing punters, still poorly served by international standards. proper competition is stifled which means the industry as a whole invests very little in trying new things.

AB, there would be exceptions... but the average punter (who does hardly ever take 20/1's...I think...) ... but each time I have been stung with this one, SP would have been the better option.

unless you think your horse is double the price it should be in the antepost market you ARE WASTING YOUR TIME HAVING A BET as EVERYTHING is in the bookies favour..they bet to 150 percent plus and still have the deductions on scratchings in their favour..the persopolis example is daylight flippin robbery as not one but two horses get scratched and still the price on it remains the same but the poor punter gets 30 percent taken off...im sure mrpropaganda machine himself dean finder will justify it as he normally does on a saturday morning

Pirates...my mate
If i back PERSEPOLIS and after the scratching it's still evens all i would do is take more evens to average my bet out.In order to make make money from the bookies you have to think like a bookie. When a bookmaker lays a horse and it shortens on him, what he should be doing is lay the same horse at the lower odds so as to bring down his average ,that way he would be in a better position with regards to his average in order to take back the said horse.
They other point PIRATES is that the bookies dont bet 150 % ( calm down im a punter im on your side ) they are betting ante-post about 138-140 % ,believe me i do my homework.
If you want to win, think like a bookmaker, but remember, always look to revise and improve your methods.

Adios ...going back to my thread heading
we cry too much...
I dont back horse ante-post...i will wait until racetime about 5 or so minutes before the race...maybe my horse would have shortened by then but it doesnt bother me ,that's my strategy and it works for me...
so i dont care about 138 to 140 % reason being when i back them its 120% meaning i have either great great value or not,but thats my way.Once again always look to revise and improve your methods if you want to win.
