...and underlines exactly the reason why racing needs to listen to the punter and why proper competition is needed to get those overrounds down.

hands up how many of you have all your eggs in 1 basket? Things have improved but still long way to go to match international betting standards, but if you keep punting with just 1 or 2 betting operators you're never going to get away from these 150% book sad stories.

Best approch = accounts with as many operators as possible, spread your bets and get the value. Of course it's a bit high maintanence but why take 2/1 if someone else next door offers 5/2?

And if anyone knows of any savvy IT people who are looking to build an oddschecker.com for SA bookies, tell them to get a move on! B)

Lets take an example of the odds right now for tom..Race 5 Vaal..horse Counter Tenor..Im in Dbn this week so I go on the computor as usual and look the odds up on bettingworld..they always seem to price up 1st.

I see opening betting 22/10 drifted to 3/1 thru 5/2 as other horses have been backed in the race. I then go to Marshalls Betting physically in Pinetown where the horse is 3/1..I ask if that was the opening price and they say YES.I also look on interbet where horse was priced at 3/1 although no bets offered.

I go back to work in theatre..I come out at 4pm and again look up on betting world where I see Opening price 2/1 drifted to 5/2.

I then for fun go onto a couple of other betting sites where I see Opening betting 3/1 shortened into 2/1.

What is really going on?

Morning Oscar as far as I can establish the official opening betting was 3/1 and the horse has been claimed to 22/10.

I suggest you request a higher price on Interbet or ask your bookie for a stretch?
Whatever the outcome of the starting price, I wish you well.

ps can I have a wee bet?

On the subject of odds checker.

Sportsbet, Keith Ho, WSB, Hollywood, Great Odds, Interbet are all 22/10

Fourie's Sporting Club are 5/2.

Oscar...
Counter tenor in my opinion is a good price even after the claim, reason being this gelding loves the sand and , he has won twice over the course and distance. The track today is rain affected and i know Pierre will get him out of the kick back eith a bit wide or to the front.
so 22/10 for me is good value.
Just curios if you thought he should be 4/1 what price would you have marked up Announce speed with the 60kg on a rain affected track ?
Cheers

Question, do you think there is a big enough South African online horse racing betting market to warrant a local version of oddschecker?

Never really looked at those sites before, seems simple enough to create, I will look into more details over next few weeks and find out exactly whats involved...
