Legal Eagle Stakes
Garrix 112 from 109?
Otto 109 from 104
Mucho stays 105
Magic Verse 113 from 114
La Pulga stays 96
Billy Bowlegs 111 from 114

......always rated Otto but he never seemed to stay keen in his races.....this new headgear has really perked him up and he ran a cracker against one of the better 3yr olds....Brett & co should get him on a float to KZN as he could snatch some of the bigger prizes in the season....huh

KZN Guineas MR Update
Sail the seas 127 from 112
EOE stays at 127
Cosmic Speed stays at 125
On my honour 116 from 108
Cays PJs stays 115
Isivane 98 from 91
I think these ratings are much too high - how can Eight on Eighteen ran to 127 - given that he was short of his best and better further; would not be surprised if the Snaith's appeal these ratings - as it stands Sail the Seas will carry the max weight of a 3-yr-old at 57 kgs

I'm assuming Eight on Eighteen wins the Daily News, he will carry 57kgs, Sail the Sea won't carry more than 53/54kgs, as he will grade 1 placed but no more.
The western cape 3 yr olds are very strong.
Why won't Eight on Eighteen run? He will carry 60kgs next year, and his top rival Oriental Charm will carry 60kgs this year, where as last year he had to carry 53/54 kgs?

if Eight on Eighteen was the best miler or had an international campaign imminent i would understand, but over this distance he has no rivals. As a young 3yr old he won the Met 6 months earlier, running away from then at the line, beating the same horses although he had a weight pull. He will carry 3kgs more but he has surely matured more in the interim.

I personally think See it Again is a 1600m to 1800m horse in best mode, beyond the Cape Derby where Charles dickens didn't see it out and was on shakey legs, he has not done the best over this distance

I think the draws will be crucial in this race, as Eight on Eighteen will need a centre draw as he takes a while to get going, and Sail the Sea needs a front row draw to get first run on the field. Snaith run him in the July if he didn't think he would stay

I agree draws might be important, but 'they' might fix the track bias, so that runners go towards to the outside in the straight - who knows; early days as far as the weights are concerned; top weight would currently be Montien (if he runs - and I think he will be entered at a later stage)

For interest as a first stab, I backed On My Honour each-way at 100/1 - as things stand will get heaps of weight from Eight on EIghteen and Sail the Seas and was beat on Saturday by less than 4 lengths; also was backed when making his return to the Cape in the Punters Cup against One Stripe and Eight from Eighteen in Nov last year - by Givemethegreenlight out of a High Chaperal dam - so whose to say he will not stay ?

I think See It Again will be a contender when less of a weights pull from others....

I don't know what others thought but I thought that In the main race on Saturday,  all the horses in the finish seemed to be going very one paced

Watching replays a lot of the kannemeyer horses ran on well from wide draws , this yard could be the one to watch leading up to the July

Once again, a great thread. I enjoy reading the reasons and ratings, especially because I just like to rate them to post. But what it doesn't factor, is Class...
