Vodacom Durban July Exacta - Eight on Eighteen / Sail the Seas
1 month 3 weeks ago
Kzn, besides See it Agan and Royal Victory no other hope.
Gauteng, Legend of Arthur is 2400 horse and form is weak. Fire Attack and Fiery Pegasus are weak, no chance in KZN.
Cape, Eight on Eighteen comeback run could of not been more impressive to me. Wrong side of the track, 1600m way to short, running on and with 100m more wins, like many horses had rain training impacts, will run with only 58, 57 kg weight in the July once it's lifetime as a 3yr old, next year it is 60kgs for sure as a multiple grade 1 winner. Infact this race is all what he can aim for in KZN, as the next best is the Met in January as he is not likely going to the Gauteng for the Summer cup. - Grab the odds, after he wins the Daily News he will be 5/2 for the July.
Sail the Seas....his biggest threat...the horse is improving and working close to the favorite. If he gets a draw, the favorite will have to run him down. He will also carry 4 to 5 kgs less than Eight on Eigtheen that makes him a big runner.
Oriental Charm the top 3 hope for me. Although carrying 60kgs in the race this year. Will he in the front but may just run out of steam.

Will SAIL THE SEAS see out the extra distance??? So far, based on how he has been running, looks the distance will be a tough task. Maybe Naresh can check the breeding side of him?

My two cents worth, if the Hollywoodbets Durban July was run this Saturday (10-05-2025), on current merit ratings, Eight On Eighteen (127) and Sail The Seas (112) and if the race conditions state the maximum a three year old colt can carry is 57.0kg with a minimum of 52.0kg, then on current ratings, Sail The Seas would be under sufferance.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

For me See it Again was the eye catcher this weekend. A distance way too short and looks a far better horse with blinkers off.
The 3 year olds are strong this year but Snaith gave me the impression Eight on Eighteen may not run in July ?

I'm assuming Eight on Eighteen wins the Daily News, he will carry 57kgs, Sail the Sea won't carry more than 53/54kgs, as he will grade 1 placed but no more.
The western cape 3 yr olds are very strong.
Why won't Eight on Eighteen run? He will carry 60kgs next year, and his top rival Oriental Charm will carry 60kgs this year, where as last year he had to carry 53/54 kgs?
if Eight on Eighteen was the best miler or had an international campaign imminent i would understand, but over this distance he has no rivals. As a young 3yr old he won the Met 6 months earlier, running away from then at the line, beating the same horses although he had a weight pull. He will carry 3kgs more but he has surely matured more in the interim.
I personally think See it Again is a 1600m to 1800m horse in best mode, beyond the Cape Derby where Charles dickens didn't see it out and was on shakey legs, he has not done the best over this distance
I think the draws will be crucial in this race, as Eight on Eighteen will need a centre draw as he takes a while to get going, and Sail the Sea needs a front row draw to get first run on the field. Snaith run him in the July if he didn't think he would stay
