Very disappointing field for the Green Point Stakes, probably end up as 5 runners. When there is prize money of 600k and trainers field 6 runners it makes you wonder.

   

There has been some great WSB Green Point Stakes the last few years

Agree Bob hence my disappointment....

Owners want the stakes to race for, Greg, Owen and sponsors have come to the party so what are the trainers doing?

Punters want to see as many horses run as possible in the lead up to G1 races as some have these races as their season target, others use them as prep runs etc.

Is there something wrong with the program?

Likely that trainers trying to protect horses' ratings to land a strike later...run a decent race behind a highly rated horse and it can compromise weight carried in future handicap races or be limited to set weight races...

I think the way in which ratings are assigned needs to be looked at...one good anomalous (sometimes a combination of a good draw, the right pace and better rated runners having an off / prep run day) run can push a horse up, but it can take many below par runs to move the rating down...

Thanks T, I partially agree with you however there would also be horses trying to get their rating up so that they can be accepted into other races. 

If fear of the MR is the issue then why did the trainers not raise this issue earlier? Besides, if the limited field is due to a fear of increased MR then change the conditions... Trainers cannot have everything go their way surely. But i am sure if the conditions were changed then trainers would be saying it doesn't suit....

One common denominator in my opinion.
