N.B. HB SCOT has received a further 20mm of overnight rain. With the forecast of further showers tonight Gold Circle has taken a decision to move the racemeeting to Monday 19-Dec. If the track is not raceable, the meeting will be moved to HB GREY Turf track on Monday, 19-Dec.

Race 5
After the changes has reduced to just 6 runners.
Botz is the only 4 yo and as such is well treated at the weights as the 3yos do not get their proper WFA allowance of 7kg. He therefore is the one to beat.
Our boy, Pascali, beat a moderate field last time over 1200m, and at his prior run over 1600m showed good improvement while still green to run a close up 3rd. His stablemate Caramel Fudge that finished just ahead of him, franked that form by winning his maiden next time out. The 5th placed horse also won next time out. We are 4kg out at the weights with Botz. However, I am of the view that Pascali should be much better over the longer trip than he showed at 1200m, so I am hopeful that he can improve significantly on the rating that he earned there. The track, however, is heavy, and we donβt know how well he will handle the conditions. If he handles the conditions and makes the likely improvement then Pascali can fight out the finish despite being 4th best weighted on official ratings.
Pongola is rated 3 points higher than Pascali, but under the conditions is off the same gross weight, and gets a further 1.5kg jockette allowance. His rating, however, was confirmed with Rachel up last time too, so the real difference may be just 1.5kg. I make him our toughest 3yo opponent, followed by Paris Pike.
Pascali is 1kg out with Paris Pike, and 0.5 Kg better off with Devils and Dust before the 2.5kg apprentice claim. The filly is well exposed and looks held by the boys which are more lightly raced and thus have more scope for improvement, although the claim does help her.
Action Stations is 3.5kg out with Pascali and hence the worst weighted of all, so very surprising to see him so short in the betting, although that is probably due to the jockey booking.

Race 1
3 African Folklore 2.86 2.00 1.33 1.11
Looks like they got the price they wanted with Geerthsen riding and stable jockey on the other one.
That's if it is stable money...we will see after the race.

Yip definitely the stable choice no doubt about that.
But that's what can happen when you try get a price by putting a weaker jock on rather than your stable jock, couldn't keep the horse straight and money in the bookies bank.

Durbs, I have invited you to meet me at Greyville and chat but you haven't taken me up on that offer. The reason that Donald rode that filly is that he has ridden her nearly every day since she arrived. Nothing to do with trying to get a price. If you read my comments I indicated that the stable preferred African folklore. We didn't price up. The bookmakers did. Not sure how much more transparent we can be.

Last week or so you and your stable got complimented. Couple days later getting chastised.
Tough game this. Not for the faint hearted.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
