The real story not mentioned. Not a single raider bothered to turn up for this supposed Gauteng "July".

Crawford horse already stabled here so does not qualify as a true raider imvho.

Oh how I remember the days of the Holiday Inns - packed with KZN and Cape horses, and top ones at that.

The demise continues unabated. How this gets a Grade 1 status only the handicappers know.

And it can't go unnoticed that the JHB season has a competitor this year

I have always been a Safe Passage fan but get the impression that Sparkling Water could be the right one.

It was an excellent function last night and Betway are going all out to make the big day a success.

Johnathan Bloomberg is very dynamic and aware of the challenges in getting the punters to start using the tote again. I am sure we are all well aware racing needs the injection to improve stake money.

Good Punting and let's win the pick 6

Sparkling Water does look very hard to beat , for me the danger is Puerto Manzano

With the 6 kg weight spread, from Divine Odyssey down are under sufferance (please correct if I'm wrong)...not very competitive if so many have to run above their currently rated ability...

At the risk of getting that yellow stuff on my face, I think there are not many horses that can win this; obviously Sparkling Water and Safe Passage have the right credentials and deserve to be at the top of the boards; at the odds, though, I do have a fancy for Aragosta (Fourie up and gets weight from the top 2) and then Puerto Manzano had a perfect prep, has imo always preferred the stand-side track - added to this an in-form combination of v Vuuren and de Melo - can see that starting in single figure odds on the day; Nebraas for me the only Tarry runner to run in the top 4

I think Sparkling Water was well weighted in the July, and won accordingly. De Kock has been vocal regards how good he thinks Safe Passage is. The horse is 2/2 over the distance, wouldn't be surprised if Safe Passage jumps as favourite come race time.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

If this year is the first time there is a 6kg spread between the top merit rated horse/s and bottom merit rated horses, then about 8 horses will be under sufferance, and the winner really shouldn't come from those, although stranger things have happened.

Agree with Frodo, don't believe there are many with a winning chance here.

From last year and the winner, Flying Carpet, was under sufferance. The 6kgs difference was done to retain its status has a Grade 1.

Note that 4yos get 0.5kgs WFA allowance.
