Wasted on the Way
2 years 9 months ago - 2 years 9 months ago
Good afternoon all, time for an update.
I have had time to do some reflections of my life ( no reference to the Marmalade classic).
Like most other people you spend the majority of life just working and surviving somewhere in the region of 45 years and then try to enjoy the last few years after the rat race.
Our plan was to down scale, have a lock up and go and travel.
Then along came Covid!!
The cost of flghts went through the roof as well as inflation etc. so all went on hold.
We are just back home after house sitting including dogs and a cat for a couple of weeks
It was different and we enjoyed the various visits to pubs and facilities in the Kyalami area.
There is a market called Prison Break which is massive and worth a visit.
We came back to our lock up and go to get packed up for a road trip to the Cape.
We are very fortunate that good friends have asked the pensioners to join them.
We were shown the route and stop overs and it all looks fantastic.
The heading of my post is a song by one of my favourite bands, Crosby Stills and Nash and it's basically about time you can waste by fighting or having power struggles on the way.
With this in mind I hope that all the latest announcements for Horse Racing ends up on a positive situation going forward.
I have a share in 2 horses both running next Tuesday.
I believe if we want to get people involved in racing it has to be by having a share in a horse.
Some of our new lads don't have colours yet but are excited about having an interest in a horse.
I know the financial model is still a shocker but indications are positive for an upswing in the game.
I think racing got "Wasted on the Way" especially with this business rescue financial fiasco.
I think the message I am trying to put over is try and enjoy the time you have left and don't Waste it on the Way.
We have plenty of good racing ahead after a real dip and we could and have written a book about BAAEED with various betting options.
I think the only bet that is not available is a price on him going to stud unbeaten, which would cover the various options on the table.
I will leave you with the harmony of a great band and hope the harmony can continue during our new racing season.
Good Punting

Great song choice, Dave. I am also a Crosby, Stills, Nash, (and Young) fan.

....I too am a CSNY fan ....and find a certain amount of irony in this song as behind the scenes a particular member was more than "wasted" for most of his life....:S
.....in the context of my life there has been not much waste as I did not set the bar too high.... :S
......however in local racing there has been far too much waste and fear that it is currently being repeated as TPTB have not learned from the past....and I hope that still in my time that it can be corrected....

Keeping with the CSN theme
Just a song before I go
Or just a punt before I go
.......the BOKS.......

Morning all we are still alive and had to sadly say goodbye to George. We had another stunning drive to arrive in Gansbaai.
We were in time to see the Whales and catch a wonderful sundown.
Very sad news regards the Queen and Peter stable...

We were in Hermanus today and head for Paternoster on the west coast tomorrow.
All stunning and tourists should be flocking to SA considering the exchange rate.
