Hi Mac

Message received

The Music and Stream are both sent from SKY

SKY send the pictures in SD quality and Gallop can't do anything with to make any better.

If you go to the SKY website using VPN their pictures are also streamed in SD quality for some reason

SD is the cheapest ( and most unattractive ) way of streaming live sport. It literally belongs in the 20th century.
Enough said.
The more things change the more they remain the same.
Rule No.1 in racing managment : NEVER spend more money than absolutely necessary on anything that might enhance the customer experience.

Hi Mac
Let me ask the GallopTV team if its possible to get the feed from Sky in HD. Or if there is a reason its only SD. Thank you for the other feedback. As Bob mentioned that music is coming from Sky.
Thank you
Devin

Dev - it would be quite difficult to actually buy any SD camera equipment today as most of it is HD (3k or 4k) with even 5K now being talked about as the next development. However - Channel 240 ( like 249 before it ) is not an HD channel unless I am very much misinformed.
So although it is entirely likely that racing is being filmed in HD it appears to be being broadcast in SD. ( Not sure why this should be relevant to streaming but it would in all likelihood affect the TV broadcasting ).
According to the audiovisual man who does installations for me South Africa (DSTV) has traditionally broadcast in SD (480 which used to be 240 at the dawn of local television), HD (720 whereas Real HD is actually 1080) and does not broadcast in the top end 2160. Things might have changed by now but that is what I was told. To see genuine HD you need to watch a Bluray programme on a dedicated player. ( A games console such as a Playstation will also suffice if you have one and don't want to buy a Bluray player).
The reason is simply cost. I seem to recall that DSTV have been historically unwilling to allocate an HD channel to racing due to poor viewing numbers.
So it would appear that 4Racing have simply applied the ASWD principle (Any Shit Will Do) and saved themselves a bit of money.
Occasionally we get to see a better image when one of the Supersport HD channels takes a big meeting. You can see the real thing soon when Royal Ascot comes around as they usually cover it on Supersport. The picture is sensational.

I think SKY send SD quality to stop counterfeiting...

I see they do it on their own website as well

Oops sorry

Love the coverage of Aussie racing. When I worked in Queensland every Saturday morning I would wonder down the road to the TAB in Cardwell. Half of the shop was a pub selling food and the other half was a TAB. NZ races started at 10 in the morning , midday in NZ and racing would go on until 8 at night taking in all the states with their different time zones. Dogs, chariots, flat racing. You could walk out quids in or crawl home drunk and broke. Their coverage was excellent, just like nowadays. One thing that I enjoyed was that when your bet did not arrive the blokes just shrugged their shoulders and ordered up another jar unlike the totes in SA where jockeys, trainers and horses where called all sorts if they lost.

Surely someone from the studio can call Brandon on his mobile so that we can at least listen to the commentary.
FFS it's not rocket science.

It's a music station so why worry about racing - The music plays on strong and Nero fiddles
