The R16M "grooms fund" that you refer to is the result of the old "broken telephone" story. I regret that you have been completely misinformed.

The R16M was for stables AND a grooms Hostel to be built at Newmarket. It was handed over to Phumelela when they took over and agreed to meet Govt's demands in terms of BEE, because Racing was not compliant, at that time.

Since then much more than R16M has been spent on Stables and Hostels upgrades, expansion etc.

Louis I have to tell you that you have done an absolutely amazing job for horse racing as regards the Vaal Training Centre. It has to be the best in the country and the options you pushed so hard for are unbelievable, there are so many options for a trainer in the mornings. The security and general workforce (hopefully Im not saying this too soon) attitude is better than most high level office blocks in the Sandton area. The cleanliness is something most of SA could use as a yardstick.

Well done my friend, I know how hard and long it took you to get that right.

@mydada - as a country, we are fast approaching the fiscal cliff - when about half of tax revenue is consumed by public sector salaries and another R100+ billion on social grants and another R160+ billion on interest on debt (that has grown by R1600+ billion in just over 20 years), very little is left to build this country for future generations without severely in-debting those future generations - and that reality is going to happen irrespective of the colour of the messenger of that fact - and when there is no money to meet the social welfare commitments made, what do you think is going to happen ? The unemployed, hungry, desperate masses are going to first vent at those that they perceive are the cause of their suffering and that is likely to first be those of a lighter hue and then non-Africans...to which category you and I likely belong to...

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me."

It's amazing that my posts are seen in a negative light when its actually the complete opposite of the truth

I see it as I read it...if you mean something, express it more clearly so that lay people like myself can understand at face value rather than having to interpret the intent...

Humble apologies if misconstrued...

TNaicker - both of your posts , the one on this thread and the one on the locked Ashwin thread are factual and very insightful. Those who are not hard of reading will definitely appreciate them and will be better off for reading them. Thank You.

From my side, I am proud of paying well above the minimum, of taking on trainees and giving them a skill which they never had. I am also proud of having been able to assist many to better their lives and to have had much improvement in all of their living conditions and even things such as Soccer tournaments etc etc. I have never been paid for these efforts, mostly I have paid in. I am most proud of the Nucleus of my staff, whom I believe will never work for anyone else when given the choice.

Overall, my weakness or trait is that I lack diplomacy, do not understand political window dressing and only know a spade as a spade. For this I have often and still do take a lot of flak. I can live with that and am often amused by those who know no better or lack common sense.

What I battle to live with, though, are blatant lies, open theft and political incitement of innocent people , the chaos that follows and the resultant losses and suffering of those, the majority, who have been led astray, on the road to nowhere.

That is so wrong in this day and age. And silence is not a virtue. Not now.

Again, Thank You for your posts.

@louisg - I'm heavily vested in SA as it is the only home I know, the only home my only child knows and my parents and in-laws have ever known - I have the qualifications to go pretty much anywhere in the world but would much rather see SA succeed from within than see it burn down from far away...

And it helps none of us to be malicious to one another (and I see it in the posts) when the greater enemy are our so-called leaders / rulers / ?? In the majority, most South Africans of all hues get on (and do their little to help each other without any coercion or persuasion) and I see it more in my daughter's generation in that they don't mingle / play / associate on the basis of pigmentation but on certain commonalities they have been exposed to from the start of their lives - it is more about community than colour...

Humanity and brotherhood does not come from the artificial differences that leaders / rulers / ?? always want to highlight to make themselves relevant but from a recognition of right and wrong and that is something each of us can discern for ourselves as individuals...

I can understand that during apartheid there was greater emphasis on the collective in that there was strength in numbers and little place for individual thought and expression but this "an injury to one is an injury to all" thinking and bandwagon syndrome is going to harm all of us - my injury is my injury and not yours to feel or do anything about - and this is becoming all to common with the result that we often see things go up in flames disproportion to the original harm caused - from the Randjies strikes to a plethora of other incidents...

Things, in general, are going to get worse before they improve and the peak (or trough, dependent on perspective) will be next year's elections...

I was once accused of being an idealist but I think I'm more of a realist now - same as you, experiences shape one's thinking...

And I am a CA...qualified with KPMG pre-Guptarisation !! :) But that doesn't disqualify me from being a lay person in respect of "real issues"...
