Top Milers ever in South Africa

After the debate on the current top miler in the country being between Hat Puntano and Legal Eagle, I got thinking about who the top S. African milers that I have seen.

Here is my list:

1. Wolf Power
2. Hat Puntano
3. Variety Club
4. Jet Master
5. Legal Eagle

This is a very subjected topic, for me, top of the pile would be the horse who has set the fastest time in a Grade 1 race at sea level. We can debate till the cows come home who we think is better than who, unfortunately we cannot race them against each other in the here-and-now, but they all ran against the clock. I say at sea level because at altitude, especially in the winter, the high-veld tracks are lightening quick and the times are generally faster.

There has been quite a few who have dominated their particular era of racing, however there must be an agreed standard/criteria on how the horses are judged e.g Prince Florimund beat Wolf Power before going abroad, not sure whether he won overseas, the same can apply to Soft Falling Rain, who was successful racing overseas, London News, Horse Chestnut, and the list goes on.

That's my 2 cents worth.

For me, the beast Horse Chestnut will always be my best.....

Wolf Power was a champ in jis own right, but the record books show that Prince Florimond was the better horse. If he wasn't exported, I doubt Wolf Power would have become the force that he did
