Why not take a chance with the De Kock favourites in races 1 and 2, about 5/2 the double? If the one in the first arrives, the one in the second will go off a lot shorter than the current 8/10 odds, that's for sure.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

We asked some trainers and one jockey for their views on horses racing at today’s Vaal meeting.

APRIL 4, 2018
TRAINER COMMENTS

Race 1:
FABIAN HABIB
2 Lazarus Tree: A nice horse but will need further.

MATTHEW DE KOCK (for Mike de Kock)
9 Zaahed: Showing good work and should be right there.

LEON ERASMUS
12 St Bernadette: Is moderate.

Race 2:

MATTHEW DE KOCK
18 Nawaasi: Showing good work and should be right there.

Race 3:
CHRIS JONKER
18 Shimmirra: Might run into the money.

Race 5:
PAUL PETER
3 Angelic: I feel it was a little bit far for her last time, but there are a few runners that have come out of that race and ran well in the Oaks Trial. So, coming down to a “mile”, if she’s suited to the straight she’ll have a big winning chance.
13 Quebec Queen: This filly keeps surprising me. She’s fit, well and her coat is still good. She has to be included.

Race 7
PAUL PETER
4 Tammany Hall: I feel she is a bit high in the merit rating. We are bumping colts and geldings, but she is a decent horse and must be included.
9 Emerald Jaguar: He doesn’t show me much at home and I think he’ll need the run.

JOCKEY COMMENTS

CALVIN HABIB
Race 2:
12 Junta: The last time I rode him over 1200m he did a bit much. Now we’re back to 1000m, I’ll give him a bit of a chance and let him do his best work late.

Race 3:
10 Good Emperor: I don’t know him very much but going over the 1400m drawn on the outside the going is usually good. I’m hoping for the best.

Race 4:
10 Polly Again: I’m hoping for an improvement. Last time she was drawn wide on the Inside track, so I committed – and did a bit much. I think down the straight she’ll be better suited and hopefully will run a better race.

Race 5:
10 Quebec Queen: She’s doing well at the moment. She’s honest and has done well over the trip. Hopefully she goes three for three. She settles well.

Race 8:
4 Full Of Attitude: We are drawn on the outside and he’s been taking on a lot stronger in his previous races. I’ve been working him at home, he’s been doing well. We are hoping for a nice run.

ZAAHED so well bred it is amazing he runs here with 2 full-siblings winning Gr1's but over ground(each won around 5 million in stakes) Only concern would be that he many need further SCRATCHED
SELFIE - that last run too bad to be true - worth taking fixed 4 places at 275/100
BAKKIES well related(Rabada - Glider Pilot) and should be included though not stable elect - watch his run as he has the blood to be a decent horse and should pay to follow.(guessing stable comment would be"Like to see him running on")
ANNIE THE GREAT - Strictly on MR and allowance should be a cert on paper being the highest of the rated runners at 68 and getting the 4kg off... has beaten Our Shinning Star and run just behind African Dynasty who both ran well in the Oaks trial...I won't blame the appie if she gets beat as she seems not to want to win ..
WRITTEN comes off a good Maiden win - She is low in the ratings as she is 4 and missed a year's racing - I think with the 1.5kg off(perhaps we may even see a late jockey change to Lyle) she could follow up - The type of horse you would love to race for a year until she finds her true mark.(low 80's?)
FRONT RANK will come up on us soon - Include in larger perms- HYPERACTIVE is another that I will include
UNREHEARSED and MACDUFF are not to be ignored
SECRET HARBOUR is worth an e/w racing off a more realistic mark of 76 and with the 1.5kg off - Of the draws are on the outside then he will be a massive runner

Zaahed scratched with stipes permission. Going for the Protea Stakes on Saturday. Getting 5kgs from Bold Eagle. Grabbed some 12/1 after the scratching. Could be good value.

Nawaasi was strongly fancied when it was meant to run. I think horse was scratched.

I think the meeting was rained out. Dagmar was also supposed to run at that meeting if I am not mistaken.
