Betting World - unable to pay out

7 years 2 months ago
#719919
Beware if you have a winning bet with Betting World in the Tableview area of Cape Town. All their branches are ‘out of money’ and can only pay out after the holidays or you can get your account credited (cynically so that you take more bets with them, no doubt)

Happy to take your money, but if you have a winner, unable to pay out.

How this company continues to trade is beyond me

Another disgrace

In the UK you can bet and be paid out via debit card. That concept does not exist in SA

I believe that they do no want to pay out and instead force the punters to bet until all is lost

A bookie that takes your money yet has no intention of paying out winners is what they are

Unable and unwilling are two separate issues. There is no doubt they would love you to lose your winnings through other betting activities. It reminds me of the tote on occasion wanting to give out vouchers in lieu pf payment.

I don't know the law but I am pretty sure that fulfilling your obligations in terms of winning bets would be a condition of licence. Drop the WC Gambling Board a complaint

Surely this is highly illegal, they offered a service/product(therefore they offered a contract to conduct business) and you in good faith concluded the deal when you paid over money to take up their offer but they defaulted on their part of the deal..

If someone offered/advertised a product/service on Gumtree/OLX or the like and accepted payment and failed to provide what they promised ,surely a case of fraud can be opened,

I think that responsible Gambling might be part of conditions of license - To try to pass credit or give betting vouchers flies in the face of it - If say you won the Lotto for maybe R1000 there is no way the Lotto lady tells you take Lotto tickets for that amount But go into a tote and the first thing you get when they have no money(Or better - The Safe is on time-lock and only opens at 11am) is take a betting voucher..I use the figure of 1k because that tiny amount is often too much to pay out!!
