Shares down to 5.5 after Steinhoff was downgraded by some credit company

Might actually be all over for them :(

To put this into context: IF MJ is guilty, this would be THE biggest scandal in the history of SA business. Not only would he detrimentally affected the lives of 10s of thousands of Steinhoff employees, but also all those who had money invested in the stock.

He could well become a national disgrace. Not judging the man. Just stating the facts.

Just because he threw money around in the racing industry does not detract from what he is alleged to have done. And the same goes for any other owner as well. But, innocent until proven guilty.

Mike the evidence is in the share price of Steinhoff no one is disputing that but you trying to insinuate that all of racing hierarchy was aware and a part of it let the matter run its course ..

Len you of all people should realise that all that glitters is not gold......

The majority of racings hierarchy have been placed in their positions because of Jooste. Your mate is but one example, the boxing dude I mean. du Plessis another. Dont play dumb when its as obvious as a second thumb

Press (and other lovers)

You try to make a point about people changing their minds but they (we) have not. He was never welcome in my beloved sport. He made himself welcome by dividing and conquering nothing more nothing less. Now it appears that the means by which this was achieved were ill gotten so stuff the champions. They were NOT His , sounds to me like Legal Eagle - Variety Club belong to a few pension funds and many many many men and woman on the street that are literally wiped out.

So no sir i am afraid your logic is flawed

persona non grata then and now and for ever.

My take is a very confussed one. I have met the man on serveral occassions , Some times good sometimes bad. Nice guy in general and I am ssure his heart is in the right place.

Sad to see him fall from hero to zero , but can I forgive the times where I disagreed with his actions pertaining tom horse racing , not sure. That will take alot of time. Most of the problems we have in horse racing was because of the set up he created as a board Member. Yes he has done alot but also made some very bad ones against other people who are still bearing the costs. ie the small breeder .

I wish him well in resolving this issue , but wont be going to his funeral.

Mr Jooste was one of my legends growing up. I took note of his colours when I was 18 years old (our giant, lion tamer etc) and always wanted to experience success like him. I would admire his sense of speech, his attire as well as the man that he was to the public eye. I bought my first horse when I was 19, because it was the start of a journey aligned to his success. I followed his professional growth over the decade and internally wished I was the chosen one to be his racing manager (yet I am nowhere close to the knowledge and competence of Mr Brugman).

This ordeal is a shocker, and here again, we are all too quick to change tune and kick sand in a mans face. So I ask the question, is our respect for "esteemed" people nothing but a façade, until a crime is committed? If so, I caution all our senior players in racing and beyond to be careful of us, as we are no different to Shakespearean villains.

Good luck Mr Jooste, the judicial process will decide your fate.

I just want to say thank you for gracing us with amazing champions over the years, and through whichever way, inspired a young man to reach for the stars too!

.....Press I feel for you as your sentiments are misplaced......I for one would never had wanted to be in a boardroom facing MJ..... as he scared the sh!t out of me..... a corporate bully of note.....I observed him at sales....and specially when he nipped of for a smoke..... and even eavesdropped on some of his conversations....the man was a tyrant.....and as for his lackeys.....you would have had to be an an exceptional @rse licker and and expert groveler....dont set your sites and hold his racing manager in esteem either....a 1st class henchman and did most of the dirty hatchet jobs.....and you are a better judge of horse flesh than what he would ever be.... ;)

Plenty stories could be told trust me. Once a prominent owner said to me that MJ was a good guy and a friend . My response " your friend never mine "

Woud MJ pay all trainers monthly, was it a lump sum payment? How many of them would have been getting percentages of runners earnings? Very interesting to see how it all plays out.

Another odd thing I've gleaned is that despite the Government Pension Fund having a reasonable interest in Steinhoff, they had no representatives on the board. A shame what's happened and especially to the poor. That he's involved in racing and apparently been so good for the game, should not afford him any special treatment. In most cases o recent suspected corruption in this country we usually presume guilt. The fact that's he's still legally innocent goes without saying but I reckon he's 15 lengths back turning for home at Champ de Mars, tough to wiggle out of this one.

The "red flags" have been blowing in the wind for years now. Yet all the hedge manager, portfolio mangers, fund managers etc etc have vast sums of other peoples money invested in Steinhoff. WTF do these clever educated people know ? Sheep and the allure of making a buck on someone else's back. 5 chartered accountants on the board yet one man takes the fall.......were they all wall-flowers ? Christo Wiese included. Bullshit !
They are all guilty, in my eyes, as well as all the greedy fund managers. JSE (shares)= risk = a form of gambling. Bad luck you lost !
Right now it is very easy to be correct, but why would you want to be, well unless you're an arsehole.
