Warren I speak for myself and don't have a clue who River j is... my side is don't paint everything in racing as being a bribe and take. their are legitimate reasons why when a tender goes out it is given or approved.

Fair enough - I never got involved in your discussion with OTA , I know nothing about that . I think I will leave it at that.

Lost the thread here a bit?
Shaheen very good and always enjoyed his inputs and enthusiastic approach, he knew what the punters wanted.
I also had a tour through Tellytrack last week and it was impressive, many faces from the past and great to meet Dom again, he was in the control room making calls on what to show split screen etc
Shaheen knew what the punters needed and Dom in the same mould.
We (Rob and myself) met to try and improve communication between the site posters and the operators..

Well that is some positive feedback Dave, thank you.
I am involved with certain Tellytrack crew on a weekly / monthly basis and they are a great bunch of people to work with, good to get the communication chain going.

Thanks Dave on the update glad to see we have direct access to Tellytrack - I have subscribed today for their new product "Informed" sounds like a good idea and the price is fair. Now I just need to find the 100 horses to follow

So returning to this thread roughly a year after receiving the abuse that I did from my mates Len and RiverJ, I am shocked to see the state of play in the Western Cape as it currently seems to stand. Now forgive me for dredging up the past, but there was a fair amount of emotion that I dared suggest that the contract for the Western Cape was being taken away from Peter Choice and was to be given to the Shams and Kantor. Well wouldn’t you know, the nepotism so rife in our industry reared its head and it’s all history now. I am very sure that all was above board and everyone stood an equal chance. If you believe that then you will also believe in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Point made about the awarding of the contract. There is however something that does bother me and that something is the sponsorship of the Fillies Championship that was previously sponsored by Choice, and according to my sources, the awarding of the transport contract was dependent upon the winner continuing this sponsorship. This does not seem to be the case and this historic race goes ahead without a sponsor if the programme is to be believed as accurate.
So we have a Fillies Championship without sponsor although we have a contract in place. It doesn’t end there. Where is the sponsor for the Cape Guineas? The Cape Derby? The Majorca Stakes? We have the tree-felling Lanzerac ready to run day, how long that lasts in the current climate is debatable. WSB is now sponsoring the Fillies Guineas, in my opinion, they will have to up their game to match the previous Avontuur effort. We have the Colts and Fillies Guineas on the same day??? I wonder who is responsible for sourcing sponsorships at Kenilworth racing? News on the ground is that everything is Johannesburg based with Storks about to deliver parcels. A poor effort and it shows in the results.
Let’s talk about racing in Cape Town over the supposed “season”. Besides lack of interest from corporates in being associated with racing down there, it seems that there is a lack of interest in the racing itself. In November and December there are 7 meetings scheduled. That’s less than 2 a week in your peak time. In January there are 6, and that includes the 2 day Queens Plate festival. In February there are 4 meetings carded. Now compare this to the 24 meetings the previous season, 29 the season before, 31 the season before that and 33 the season before that and its obvious things are going backward. No wonder Kenilworth racing is in trouble.
In my opinion, Cape racing has gone backwards and will continue to do so while it is micro “managed” by the North

Maybe Kenilworth should sponsor the race with the Millions they saved on transport cost?
Also Sponsorship is usually only a fraction of the cost of the race

The money in the western cape racing families is incredible, most have huge businesses that operate overseas...
They said in the past they would race without stakes... So why don`t they buy Kenilworth?

Must admit KZN always seem to find sponsors for races ( will be a fractional cost)
Surely any sponsor is better than the freebies?
