Prawn Festival - Cape Town and Jo'burg

I remember how Phumelela were slated last year for a terrible experience by many people who were disappointed. Judging from what I saw on TV this year was a huge flop. Did anyone attend?

We’ve noticed a number of concerns, based on the comments here, surrounding the Joburg Prawn Festival and would just like to reassure you that any issues that arose during last year’s event have been resolved.
There was a lot of feedback and constructive criticism and all of this has been taken on board and the necessary improvements have been made to ensure that everyone who arrives at Turffontein Racecourse on 4 March.
The first massive improvement has been the implementation of pre-sale tickets for the event from Webtickets which will ensure that we won’t be caught off guard. Your online ticket ensures you a priority pass to your order so that you don’t miss any of the action.
As an added incentive, the first 100 people to redeem their Prawn Festival tickets will receive a drink on us.

I am just waiting to read the article on what a great success it was and there were thousands of people on course. Yes maybe there were all upstairs in all the rooms. Like the Its a Rush Article on the lounge , nice idea , but out of hominy can fit in the room , how many will bet again and how many will purchase a race horse. Sounds like denial to me. I don't have the answer to this . It is a tough job.

TV has killed horse Racing , if they want to get people to the Race course , they need to re think . I would suggest hiring buses from Totes to the course, many people in SA rely on pubic transport and we all know in what state that is in. The Casino Industry in the beginging used to go collect people and bring them to the casino . Just an example.

In the world that we now live in surely deterring young people from gambling should be the proper thing to do. I have seen far too many families break apart, suicides, kids going without any food for days on end, house repossessions , broken men all because of gambling.

My own experience was my father. He gambled every day needless to say he lost it all. I gamble but have always only spent disposable income and when it's up it's up.

So if young people get into gambling they have to be made aware of the downfalls of gambling, It's not all sweets and roses

The amount of problem gamblers as a percentage of gamblers is tiny

You are very correct . This is a new generation - the Millennials (also known as Generation Y) These are from 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years.

They are not interested in material things , assets etc , they want to Travel and live life to the fullest. We were always taught , you go to school then varsity if you are lucky , then get a job until your pension kicks in . In between there you buy a house , get married and have children, and build up wealth .

This generation , are totally opposite , they want to experience excitement , to them life is to short .

......it was the 1st full sunny day in weeks.....people can still eat prawns under cover.....the weather may have had a slight part to play.....still maintain it was the entrance fee that kept most away......look at Cape Town no adverse weather yet attendance was still down....

Look trust was broken at the first event... All the negative press would have prevented many from returning... the R30 entrance was a way to regulate before the event started but unfortunately people are very fickle in today's world and they decided no to risk another bad experience... It happens

but its that tiny amount that affect plenty of lives. I will never ever forget a news report on Sky News when Mozambique had floods. They had a couple of helicopters picking up stranded people on roofs etc. The person in the Sky news studio asked the reporter in Mozambique what more can be done to help the people. He said that they are getting in one more helicopter to which she in the studio said "what difference would one more helicopter make" well that helicopter saved a few more lives. So just one more gambler who loses it all can affect plenty of people around him.

There is nothing wrong with gambling so long as you know when to stop. Its that small number that dont that do all the damage mentioned in another post.

Yes chook, but that`s why the age is so strictly regulated

Like Alchohol, Smoking and everything else.. when we are adults we can make our own choices and thank goodness there are not many go of the rails

My last point on the subject. Is it not weird that when you first have a bet on the horses you usually win withing the first three bets that you have. That gives you the bug. I am sure that the majority of people on ABC did in fact win with their first, second or third bet and thats what kept them playing.
