The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an inquiry was held at its offices in Johannesburg on Monday 8 August 2016.

Jockey S’Manga Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.1 in that as the rider of CAPTAIN COURTEOUS, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures from approximately the 450m to ensure that his horse had been given a full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing in Race 3 run at the Fairview Racecourse on 24 June 2016.

Jockey Khumalo pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Board, after considering all the factors stated in mitigation and aggravation, determined that this was a serious offence and imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 60 days.

Jockey Khumalo was granted permission to take his suspension from 9 August 2016 to 7 October 2016, both days inclusive.

considering his offence was far more severe than Striker to anyone who has 2 eyes in their head - i think way to lenient and should have been at least 6 months imho

Far too lenient in my opinion, for blatantly pulling the horse up BEFORE THE FINISH.

Striker got lazy & dropped his hands, did not ride it out.

YOU tell me who was the WORSE OFFENDER.......Bling by a country mile, and I never had a cent on the horse.

Bob with all due respect its not just the outcome you need to look at in these cases - eg if i pull up a horse that would have won by 10 l and loose a shd and another jock eg striker drops his hands in error of judgement imo these are 2 blatantly different examples with the same net effect to the punter but the point you are missing it is more than that it is not just the position the horse ran in it is the severity of the pull job. Eg armed robbery for 10k and in one case there is a murder same net effect but one is far worse. Imo the stipes need to completely review this and be more severe. if bling knew he could get a year for that sort of offence do you think he would have done that - answer is no!
