If u watch Marinesco he was 4/5wide and couldnt get in, then GVN had to play dodgem cars and managed to settle him 1 of the fence, but i seriously thought he would not win, when he hit the straight he finished like he was just dropped in

Couldn't agree more. Just look at GVN'S reaction at the winning post. A sign that he had plenty under him. This horse is certainly a grade 1 horse, whether he's as good as the top 3 year olds - Black Arthur and Abashiri will remain be to seen.

IMO, Abashiri has no chance against the Cape horses...Black Arthur, Marinesco, even Bela Bela and Nightingale...he has never met this class of horse before, and even though he won the Triple Crown, he still has to meet this bunch on even playing grounds! If he beats this lot then he is an absolute SUPERSTAR! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

ABBA is a good horse he can only beat what is put out to race against him, you don't see many triple crown horses around good luck to the owners and trainer

The best horse doesn't necessarily win the july and keep in mind the jhb boys gave the cape boys something to think about in their backyard
Queensplate & met won by jhb horses

The field is starting to shape up.

Legal Eagle
Abashiri
French Navy
It's My Turn
Master Sabina
Rabada
Samurai Blade
New Predator
Deo Juvente
Mac de Lago
Punta Arenas
Solid Speed
The Conglomerate

That is 13 of which Legal Eagle /Abashiri are doubtful on trainers/owners decisions. I reckon It's my Turn, Samurai Blade and New Predator might want to have good runs in the Daily News.

But I reckon you can add St Tropez and Dynamic as runners. Trainers/owners want Master's Eye and Dynastic Power to run but may have qualification issues. King of Pain, Gold Onyx and It is Written trying to scramble in through the Rising Sun but I doubt it ?

Then it is down to the 3 year-olds in the Woolavington and Daily News. Personally I think Nightingale is the only filly with a chance of running but even I don't think she will.

Black Arthur
Marinaresco
Mambo Mime
Ten Gun Salute
Celtic Captain
Prospect Strike
Rocketball
Sylvester the Cat
Nightingale

Bela Bela looks sure to run? And I think Paterfamilias will run?

Snatih has said that Bela-Bela's main target is the Woolavington. Delpech has also added doubts that she will see out 2200. I also think Snaith wouldn't want to push her as a 3YO when he has Black Arthur, It's my Turn, Dynamic and Master's Eye.

Fayd Herbe says they targeting Paterfamillias for a 1600 feature. Most probably rising sun. He isn't the soundest.

The horse that really excites me is Marinaresco
And i don't get excited too easily
It's been a long time since i've seen anything quickening like he did last time
And for me it's not about what he beat, but how he did it

I have a feeling we're gonna have some happy clanners come Dday :)

Will Marinaresco qualify for the July with only two grade 3 wins under the belt and not much more than a 100 MR. With only 16 runners will surely have to contest a KZN feature to get into the race.

They seem to be relying on the fact that he got close to Black Arthur

Shogunner got in the July being a 1 time winner and had a merit rating of 106 at that point in time

There were 20 in the field then. I would be amazed when the next log comes out if he is anywhere near the top 20. IMO would need quite a few to drop out to get into the race.
