just seen photos of these 2 ex racehorses on Ashleigh hughes facebook page and they both in shocking condition ..this scenario seems to never end and one wonders when and if the nhra are going to actually do something about it or continue just talking about it..

Shocking P, something must be done immediately. Thank goodness for someone like Ashleigh.

Snaith racing may not give us comments but at least they give a sh*t about the horses before and after retirement, would take that any day.

This has been going on for nearly 2 months. I was asked to find out what horses they were by their microchip numbers. Once I had, we found the horses had run 11 days before in Kimberly and were already in very bad condition in Mthata being used in bush racing. I contacted Zietzman and was told that the 2 were sold to a hack stable in Jhb and he didn't know how they got to the bush racing. To absolve Zietzman I asked for thecell number of the people they were sold to but that has still not been forthcoming. Ashleigh took over and was working with the Stipes in Jhb. A gather they have said there is not enough evidence?? Bob has the photos that he could possibly post here. It is still on going at the moment. Ashleigh doing a great job up there but needs more support. Clodagh Shaw bought Just Jawja from the new owner and sent her own float and driver down to rescue her and I saw her the next day and you cannot believe what she looked like. Shocking. The only negative is that apparently now the bush racer's think that they can get money selling the horses in a bad condition for money and want like3/4 times the amount they paid for them to let them go. She is one of the worst cases I have seen and I have seen quite a few in our working with CHCU.

I hope that this matter has been reported to the Jockey Club who very recently introduced new rules about the disposing of racehorses after their racing careers. Judging by what is being said, these two horses would have been subject to those rule changes. Bill Human will have to produce the necessary documentation showing that these horses underwent a veterinary inspection before leaving yard. From the sounds of Craigs post it seems highly unlikely that this has been done and if proper procedures were not followed then a massive fine is an absolute given.

OTA, this sorry case was the cause of the rule change so not subject to it yet which is a shame. All we want is the telephone number of the person who was supposedly " given or sold" the 2 horses in Jhb. Still have not received it. NHRA should force the number to be given to them if it exists or hold the previous trainer responsible for their condition. Someone has to be held responsible for the horses poor/shocking condition.

fines aren't enough its lifetime bans that should be handed out as these people shouldn't be within 500km of horses..well done to clodagh she has been doing this all her life and I remember her and the honourable pat o neil going to an auction and buying up all the horses because a butcher was there to buy them ..you have to admire Ashleigh as well for having the courage and guts to do something about the shocking situation....brett webber got some ridiculous fine the other day meanwhile his horses were and are in the pink of health so lets see what our great governing body who say they uphold the integrity of racing do about this ...

One of the reasons the rules were changed well done Ashleigh and Craig, although the NHRA have no balls to carry anything through.. Maybe the pics should be sent to the nationals or threatened to be sent to the nationals
I think Zietsman or Bill have already been questioned on this case and there was not any or enough evidence to take it further. So i suppose we should watch what we are saying.
Stop sending horses to trainers that do deals, these horses are a month or two away from ending up in the same condition. (reason why so many good trainers are getting out)
Either pay to feed and care for your horses properly or get out the game.
Maybe the nhra should set a minimum training fee that must be paid by owners? this way starving trainers and stable staff wont need to sell TB for chow money!

Bob I am not a facebook man so have not read anything but what has been posted here. Could I ask how these horses were not party to the new rules if they raced at Kimberley 11 days ago?

Remember Castle Ball(sure thats the horses name) ran flamingo, bush race namibia, flamingo park within the space of a fortnight.Owner let slip on here it happened ... Not enough evidince
Johns horse the other month Magic Trip " find a good home" then sold into a racing yard .. Rule change, but he was basically told to sign the horse over. She could have ended up the same place
The horse that was left to rot in a kimberley paddock for 2 weeks with an injury. We were asked to start a campaign the horse disapeared the next day reported euthanised.Photos, videos and respected trainers reported to the nhra... not enough evidence
